MADRID (AP) -- Spanish bulls have scored a symbolic victory at Madrid's prestigious Las Ventas ring by injuring three matadors and forcing organizers to call off the bullfight.

The fight, the 12th of the famed San Isidro festival, was stopped late Tuesday after bulls gored two matadors and tossed a third into the air.

I have done some foolhardy things in my life but bullfighting has always seemed like it would be a matter of when not if you got hurt. And also a good way to lose a testicle or 3, which these guys seems to have spares so maybe its ok?

As best I can tell, the bulls have only two testicles  But their fortitude in keeping on trying to get even with the matadors is admirable.

Feel the need to prove your manhood?  Want to show the ladies that you "have what it takes"?  Forget irritating a large quadruped until it is so weak you can stick a sword in it.  Go tell your girlfriend's mother not only that she is wrong but why she is wrong about you.

stay safe.

While I can appreciate the art and the music and the pomp and the pageantry and the tradition and the bushido involved, I still think it's a barbaric practice only justifiable within a basically primitive subculture.

But... the bulls win sometimes.

Maybe they ought to change the scoring system and instead of rescuing the Matador, they should leave things alone until one or the other is dead.

After all, with two or three other mounted rescuers on hand, it's not a fair fight.  Or maybe they should allow one other bull in the ring for each bandillero(?) stuck in the bull's shoulder muscles to weaken it.

Hey, that would be fair, right?  >:D

What he said.

I'd be more ok with it if the bulls won more often.

So it is in the strictest sense of the word, "sporting."

I was referring to the matadors.

"Spanish bulls win symbolic victory"

No... I'd just call that a victory. I hope that noble beast gets a retirement with plenty of studding responsibilities.

While you guys were posting, I amplified my original post (Reply #3)based on something I wrote in a writing class assignment in college on the subject.  (Yes, I'd researched "justifications" for the "Sport" including "Papa's" (Hemingway's) glorifications of the activity.)

I was referring to the matadors.

They are more likely to enter the ring with <2.

I've read of a few "accidents" that happened when very young trainees did not get out of the way of the wheeled simulation bull.

Never heard of a bull having an "accident" until after the tail was awarded.

stay safe.

When I was in Spain a few years ago, we actually want to try and catch a fight but they do not do them that often.
Also the tree hugger types are also ruining the pastime. I believe they no longer do them in the coliseum in Madrid.

Angry bulls
Narrow streets
Panic
Blood
Guts and Gore
Many moving targets
Innocents harmed
Stupidity
Revenge?

Question:  How come I didn't see any women runners?

Because woman have more sense then men?

I think it might actually be because it's so much easier for a woman to impress a man . . .

Only men think woman are impressed by stupid dangerous things that men do to impress each other and work off excess testosterone.

That eyerolling? Yeah, that's not being imptessed, it's just a sign of our silent acceptance of the fact that no matter how many times we tell you men not to do stupid crap that will end up with you in the hospital, you're still going to do it.
