Title: What Color is This Dress?
Post by: Ben on February 27, 2015, 09:55:36 AM
In the FoxNews image posted below, I see it as white and gold. In the Wired images, I see it as both white and gold and blue and black.

The first photo I saw, I saw it as white and gold as this one shows.  Other pics I have seen it as blue and black and according to the daughter of the woman who wore it, it is blue and black.

The majority are supposed to see it as blue and black in all lighting conditions. It'll be interesting to see what the APS majority is. :)

I should note the only time I saw it in blue and black was in the right-side image of the three shot on Wired. Everywhere else I have seen it, I've seen it as white and gold. But then if the Wired guy is correct, I'm a day person.

Seems to depend on the angle of my screen to my eyeballs.

Tipping it back, looking "up" at it, blue-black.  Straight on, whitish and gold.

But it's ugly anyhow.  :old:

Interesting. On my desktop, it's white and gold, but my laptop, it was blue and black.

Why isn't pinkish gold and bluish an option?

So, I first saw this on XKCD today.

Now there's a thread about it here.

Is this some big internet thing right now for some reason?

Yeah, it's making the rounds on the social media, with the celebrities and other social knuckleheads arguing about the color and the dress.  I actually just found it interesting because I always find stuff like how our brains and eyes perceive things to be interesting. I would rather it had been a white and gold donut, but I still find the science fascinating.

Replicants are exactly like regular humans in almost all regards, but there is a subtle flaw in their ability to discern color…

Growing up Dad bought four different cars (Ford, Chevy, and 2 Buicks) that he described as "Blue" or Bluish-Green".

Each one was the same shade of grey.

I could care less about the drama and fussing about it, but the Wired article was interesting.

It's too bad people are fussing over the color rather than learning about why the color is different for different people.

(BTW, in the FB pictures it was a blueish white and dull gold, in the middle Wired picture, I saw it as light blue and gray. But the really weird part is that I read down the article, and as I scrolled back up the middle picture changed from white and gold to blue and black. It seems that I can see it both ways and in the middle. Also, it makes my eyes feel funny if I look at it too long.   =| )

"Honey, does this dress make me look white and gold, or blue and black?"

Well, now it's all over. I just learned that my wife thinks it's blue and grey. That wench. We're through. Thanks a lot, internet.

12:06 AM 28 Feb.  Sorry I'm late.

It's still ugly.

And I still think a lot of it depends on the angle at which you view your screen.

Me go now.

It was an old ladies dress so of course it is ugly.
