Title: Spelling by State
Post by: Ben on June 01, 2015, 11:18:23 AM
Best and worst spellers by state, and the words each state has the most trouble with. Interestingly, it's "grey" in CA, and I have to say I have always been confused myself, but generally use "grey". Doing some searching, the sites I found all say that either "gray" or "grey" or okie dokie.

Heh!

Delaware's most troublesome word is "Parynichia."

Say, whut, now?

I'm surprised "separate" and "ridiculous" aren't on the list, unless I missed them. (Mnemonic:  There is "a rat" in sepARATe.)

I discovered on a trip to Georgia that the Southern use of the word "receipt" is correct for "recipe."  As in "Grandma's old time book of Southern Receipts."

Well, spellings change over time anyhow.  Like "gonne" for gun.

Are they saying that's a correct spelling for "hors d'oeuvre"?

'Cause that's rediculous!

I was taught

gray = America
grey = England.

I still spell it as "grey".
