Salon's (apparently serious) gun law proposal: "Want to own a gun? You are required to be shot first."

I didn't and won't read the article. However, some comments I saw on Facebook said that the writer of that dreck got taken to task even by lefitsts and liberals in the comment area to that article.

Sounds like click bait.

Hmm. Maybe he's on to something. Want to have sex? You must get HIV first. Want to drive a car? You'll have to first be involved in an accident.
Heck, we could keep people from doing most anything this way.

Some of the responses are pretty good. My favorite:
If you want to raise taxes on the rich, you must pay the rate you want them to pay
-
If you want to smoke weed, you have smoke so much you OD first. They may have already tested this one.
-
"Want to own an automobile? You are required to be run over by an SUV first."
Yupp, makes sense to me.
-
I think the best analogy, which both shows what defensive firearms are, and also show the absurdity of the article is:
"If you want to own a fire extinguisher, you must first set yourself on fire".

Gun praisers are just like the people who were in favor of slavery back in the day–– the elite, lazy and ignorant who weren’t being beaten, raped or in the field doing the work, so they were perfectly okay with involuntary servitude, which is a problem and why I think gun owners need to feel more––they need a taste of the other side.
Well, now you've got your propaganda all twisted about. According to "gun safety experts," gun owners are more likely to get shot. Don't you even anti-gun?
I won't get into your total historical illiteracy on the struggle against slavery "back in the day." I suppose you think Wilberforce and Garrison and Beecher-Stowe and the Tappans were all slaves.
-
Just goes to show the level of passion some of these anti-gunners have. Irrational blind fear and hatred of GU-UHNS.
That's why Cooper coined the term hoplophobia.
I guess it takes a good mugging or a good tyranny to change some folks' minds.

I don't think even tyranny would change their minds. I'm fairly certain that they'd all whine about how it was only for our good and for the children. Those that the tyrant executed probably deserved it and we'd be better off without them.
-
And a mugging would require a stronger, more strict police state to protect them.
