SC school bans American flag from football games

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – School officials’ decision to ban students from displaying the American Flag at a recent football game is creating controversy in a South Carolina school district.

On Friday, Travelers Rest High School principal Lou Lavely banned students from carrying American flags into a football game against Berega High School, because a lot of students at Berega are Hispanic. Lavely contends the American flag could have been used to taunt those students, WNCN reports.

May Lou desist from his evil ways.

My son's school had "Patriot Night" at last Friday's game, honored grads who are or have served.  Think a couple of hundred students wearing patriotic clothing, waving flags.  Including the Muslim students.  Should send some pics to South Carolina...

Each and everyday I want to go out and start my own damn country.

Then start a war with the US, quickly surrender and then reap in millions of dollars to build my country up.

If I were a multi-billionaire*, there's a nice little peninsula, almost island, on the north of Venezuela, just off of Aruba. (Probably could be made into an island without a great deal of trouble.)

Offer to buy it from the country to infuse them cash while they are desperate. Quickly build up defenses (because they're going to try to steal it back) and set up a small Caribbean nation there.

Hell it is Venezuela, not much of a defense would be needed.

The members of this board probably could go and defeat a lot of countries' armies with what we have stockpiled and collective knowledge.

See the old 1960s movie, "The Mouse That Roared."  It's a laugh riot.

Since when is showing the American flag "taunting"? I don't care if an opposing school or team has a lot of Hispanics. They came to the USA, they should accept and understand that in the USA we display the flag of the USA. If they want to see a Mexican or Ecuadorian or Peruvian flag they can go back to Mexico or Ecuador or Peru.

If you think that's fun,  you'll love the influx of Congolese into Montana.  Just wait until they figure out how to work the victim angle!

Hard to believe they would even get many people to go to that game, except to break the rule.

Hawkmoon, this is the second duplicate thread you've started today.

Wouldn't have to follow the US practice of  rebuilding. Simply plunder the treasury, reap the spoils and leave the losers to fester in their own filth.

You want to plunder our debt?  We can probably work something out there....

Back to the high school and the flag -- the principal has backed down:

I'll bet his e-mail inbox was overflowing. I know I sent him a message.

I know Trump has talked about deporting illegals, but what are his plans for deporting guys like that principal?

As has been noted, the decision was reversed.

I'm less interested in knowing that flags can be used to taunt people than I am in figuring out how we have people in this country who *can* be taunted with the flag.

I have not followed this closely, but my understanding is that TRHS students have in the past attempted to or succeeding at taunting Berea High School students (who are predominantly Hispanic) with the flag. The exact mechanics of this have not been made clear to me.

To say that TR is rebel-proud would be an understatement in the extreme. This is a place that is Scots-Irish to the core, and state-famous for moonshine making. During the revolution, we were late to the fight until the Tarleton massacre, on account of that being Charleston's war. During the Civil War, Greenville county was a hotbed of Union sympathizers and a hideout for Confederate draft dodgers. At least a couple Confederate Home Guards never came out of those hills from hunting draft dodgers. And of course now, the number of CFDPC* is extremely high.

Because we don't like being told what to do by anyone. Ever.

Especially when it comes to Flags and Football. I don't know what Mr. Lavely's background is but I bet he won't be at TRHS for long, and good riddance to bad rubbish.

So instead of stickers, should we head up there this weekend and drop off some applications for Burger King etc. addressed to him?
