The Gibsons always just "felt" better to me.  More playable somehow.

Caviat:  I dont' play an instrument, so take that as you will.

I'd go for a Parker Fly, based solely on the opion of friend who does play, and who's judgement I trust in this matter.  And, I like the look, and the tech behind the instrument.

Of course, my preferred instrument is a direct neural interface that can caputre what I play while in REM sleep.

I have always been a Jackson junkie.Have yet to find another with such a thin ,fast neck. Of course the super hot pickups in them tend to limit you from any "pretty" tunes,...

I like both, but I picked the Strat.  As long as you don't have a problem with the fret scale they're easier to modify to your individual style.  They're cheaper and you can easily replace any part.  Replacing frets is also much easier on a Strat.  

Aside from swapping pickups or replacing worn pots, tuners, etc., there's not much I'd want to do to a Gibson unless it already had the value beat out of it.  In the last 20 years they have gotten too expensive and retain their value too well to risk screwing one up.

There are plenty of other guitars out there I like as well, but I'm sticking to the original question.

Les Paul or Stratocaster? Tough choice. When I'm playing one of mine, I alway find myself putting it down and picking up a Telecaster or Esquire.

Of course It's hard to chose which one, I have a couple of each. Mostly it's the '56 tele, like butter.

For me the choice was made before I bought one.

Stratocaster:  Eric Clapton. Jimi Hendrix.

Les Paul: Les Paul, Guys from Boston/Journey/REO arena rock and /Heavy-Metal- Bang-Your-Head bands.  
The guys playing the Strat played music I liked better when I was young and impressionable.  Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck balance these out somewhat, but throw in the higher price and lack of a whammy bar and I lean toward the Strat.

I'm talking an American Strat here, not a Squire Strat like you see at most stores.
