Title: I kin make it, I kin make it !
Post by: 230RN on October 30, 2016, 05:07:21 AM
Was browsing some train crash videos just for frowns and came across this... among many others:

Who was it who said it's too bad there's no natural predators for stupidity?

MV2 = energy, and there's a heck of a lot of M in those trains.

Stop. Look. Listen.

Even that doesn't help sometimes.  Limousine high-centered on tracks:

If ya ever want a stretch limo, find out who made that one and get them to make ya one cause it held up REAL well considering!

I was thinking the same thing. High centered on the tracks, t-boned by a train, and pushed a quarter or half mile down the tracks ... and the frame doesn't look like it got bent at all.

I imagine they have a pretty stout frame just to keep the thing from sagging in the middle.

Holy moly there are some stupid people out there. What was interesting in some of the foreign ones was the reaction of bystanders. Instead of running to render aid, they were nonchalant, as if the incidents were daily occurrences.

If the drivers had been wearing high visibility jackets, those crashes would not have happened:

This one defies explanation:

Note to self: Never take a train in a 3rd world country.

Addendum: Never travel in a 3rd world country.

Screw it, stay the heck out of 3rd world countries!

I know the Brits don't do cow-catchers, but you'd have thought they'd put some extra steel up front, to keep from scratching up their locomotive. Must have been some old yard-switcher, or something already retired.

Not really related, although there is a bit of a crash about 3.30:

Actually, I am told that one of the major reasons for the elderly to have accidents is misjudging the speed of oncoming traffic in turn situations, so I pay special attention there.

But over my 60 years of driving (the last 25 or so with no accidents or tickets), fully half of my accidents have been backing accidents.

The other half have been fronting accidents.

Lesse, I'll hit 60 in April, been driving since I was 15 so, carry the 2, I been driving 44 years on 2, 3 and 4 wheels (one if ya count the occasional wheelie).
I had 1 very minor fender bender as a teenager that was my fault.
In the later 70s a guy pulled out in front of me when I was home on leave and I tweaked the nose of a 6? Mustang pretty good with my 69 Caprice Classic.
I was side swiped by a tractor-trailer one Halloween on the interstate on the 90s. The truck driver and another trucker lied and claimed it was my fault. No one was ticketed but initially it looked like my insurance was going to pay. After a full investigation, it was reversed and the trucker had to cover everything.

My wife was sitting in that passenger seat when that truck tried to take our lane... She had glass in her hair down her dress and in her bra. She was shaken but ok. I dove off into the medium on impact and came to a safe stop there and phoned the State Police.

Our last accident was in the early 2000s when we were rear ended on the interstate in VA as I was trying to get into the right lane and I had a tailgater on my ass. They tagged me then someone SLAMMED into them slamming them into me causing a chain reaction wreck blocking the interstate for miles. I pulled off on the shoulder as soon as we were hit, checked on Terri and called the cops. Checked on the driver in the car behind me then got back in my car. The cop told me a bunch of lies, wound up charging ME with Reckless driving and no one else with anything! NOTE: One man was pretty severely hurt by the car that plowed into us as it bounced off into a pickup taking it's door of and hurting the driver. I hired a good lawyer, lost a LOT of sleep and went to court. It took about 20 seconds for the judge to throw the whole thing out and chew out the cop for not ticketing anyone else and having THEM before her. My lawyer didn't have to do anything but it was still $2,000 well spent IMHO! The girl who was tailgating me said she was going to sue me and my lawyer begged me to let him have that case, I think he was drooling.

Other than that, I may have had 5 speeding tickets and some campus parking tickets. These days, I don't speed. I get up to speed briskly and I do like my corners but I behave for the most part.
