I thought this was interesting.  Looks like their is some progress to see on the gun rights side.  Either that or the distrust of Govt is up.

On the other hand, the same poll apparently says a few more people want stricter controls on guns.  I wonder if that indicates how few people really know what the law is now.

The problem for me is that most people will say they're against a gun ban, but will happily give a thumbs up on "gun restrictions" that end up essentially being a ban in practice.

"I'm against banning guns, but..."

MechAg, do both stories reference the same poll? The second article is over a year old.

Good catch.  I missed that.  That makes me feel a little better.

Looking at Gallup's web site, I found this also.
In U.S., Support for Assault Weapons Ban at Record Low

Looking at the timeline, that correspondes with what I perceived as changing attitudes over the last 20 years.  In the 90's, it seemed heavier gun control was inevitable, but public opinion has shifted.  The 10 years from 1996 saw the AWB law shown as useless, saw concealed carry become more widespread, and saw 9/11/2001 and increased fear domestic terrorism.
