Some folks have indicated an interest in doing some cigar trading. I think it's a great idea, let's do it.
So who's in? If you wanna play, reply to this thread.
We'll draw up a list of everyone who's in. Each person sends, say, $15 worth of cigars to the next person on the list. After a bit we'll shuffle the list and do it again.

I'm in.

-
I'm down.

OK, here's our list so far:
1) BenW
2) wmenorr67
3) ex-ma hole
4) dasmi
5) Headless Thompson Gunner
Anyone else want in?
I mentioned $15 as the value of cigars we should swap. Is this a good value? Should we spend more? Less?
-
I think that's a nice number.
Three meh ones or two good ones, or one really good one.
Works for me.
-
I also think the 15 bones works. As ex-ma hole said, gives a good quality/quantity option to play with.
-
$15 sounds like a good amount also.
-
Alright, let's do this. I've been stalling fr the past few days, hoping that Waitone and TarpleyG would join us. But they haven't, and I'm getting impatient.
Pick $15 worth of cigars and send 'em to the person who comes after you on the list. BenW sends to wmenorr67, wmenorr67 sends to ex-ma hole, and so on. The list is circular, so the last person on the list (me) sends to the first person (BenW).
PM your recipient for his mailing address and drop 'em in the mail. If everything works without a hitch, we should all have some new cigars to enjoy for Christmas. Cool, innit?
-
I'm in too!
-
Coolness. Lemme add you to our list.
EDIT: There ya go. I put you at #4 so that the addition of a new name shouldn't muck things up any. Welcome to our little madhouse!
-
"wmenorr67 sends to ex-ma hole"
How ironic!
wmenorr67, I do believe that we are all set for this round!
(For the rest of you: Yes, this is an inside joke.)
Catch you later.

Agghhh -- wait -- can we start after Christmas? I'm on leave starting today and nowhere near my humidor until the 26th. I might be able to find a cigar store where I am, but couldn't guarantee quality of their storage facilities. Hate to start off by potentially sending dried out smokes....
-
I'm good either way...
-
Either way is good for me.
-
Ex-ma. I will get some sent out as soon as I can. I need to get some to be able to send some out. I may just have my wife send them from my home in Tulsa since that is where my stash is currently.
-
wmenorr67 is cool with me sending him his next week, so as not to throw my usual monkey wrench into the machinery, maybe everyone else just send whenever it works for their recipient??
-
Even if we all send 'em out today, I doubt anyone would receive them until sometime after Christmas. So don't sweat it if you can't ship until the 26th. It might evenbe a little bit better that way than to have the cigars sitting in the post office dehydrating over the holiday.
-
Just a bump...
Mine were sent, received, and smoked...seems like he liked them...anyone else?
-
Mine went out today.
-
Got mine from HTG and had the Montecristo yesterday -- damn fine cigar that went well with a bit of cognac.
Sent wmenorr67 his last week, but no telling when Uncle Sam's mail service will get them to him...

Should take a week and a half to two weeks.
-
So, what cigars did y'all get? What'd you think after smoking them?
Do y'all wanna trade cigars again, and if so how soon?
-
BenW, still waiting. Hopefully today or tomorrow.
Ex-ma, smoked one you sent me yesterday. Good smoke. The "field humidor" test is underway. The paper towel seems to hold moisture rather well. It has been about 4 days so far. Will check the cigars I put in tomorrow and see how well they have "recharged." Stuck 4 rather dried out Cubans to start with. Hope to find this breathed some life into them.
Ex-ma, spoke to the wife yesterday, the 2nd, and she stated that cigars are packed and will ship today, the 3rd.
All things in Iraq are doing good. No signs of increased violence due to the hanging of Saddam. Everything seems to be "normal" for the time being.
-
BenW, cigars arrived today. They are in good shape. Thank you and I will let you know how they smoke in a day or so.
-
Cool.
-
Glad they made it in one piece -- hope you enjoy them!
Out of curiosity, was the paper towel still damp at all? I want to work on fine-tuning the "field expedient" humidor....
-
Yes it is. It is quite wet also. I am still working on it from my side also. I need to wet my paper towel more because the cigars I am experimenting with are extremely dried out.
-
Ex-ma, spoke to the wife yesterday, the 2nd, and she stated that cigars are packed and will ship today, the 3rd.
Got them today sir, thank you. You took very good care of me.

You are quite welcome.

I don't have anything to trade...
I 'quit' ciggarettes long ago but still get the urge for a very occasional smoke, and ciggarettes aren't a very fulfilling occasional smoke. I'd like recommendations on an available, affordable, and inoffensive for the newbie cigar.
-
Maccanudo. This, to me, is the ideal starter cigar. Anything with a lightly shaded wrapper. The dark wrapper is a lot heavier, and in my opinion, is not a good cigar for a newbie cigar smoker. Larger cigars tend to burn smoother and cooler and longer, smaller ones faster and hotter. It a matter of finding a size that you like.
Also Fonsecas are nice.

Ask the old fogeys who staff your local tobacco shop. They'll be lots of help.
In general, cigars are categorized according to how strong they are: mild bodied, medium bodied, or full bodied. New smokers are advised to start with mild cigars, as stronger cigars can be overpowering and maybe even nauseating.
Macanudo is the big name in world of mild cigars, but they're somewhat expensive, and in my own personal opinion kinda boring. Other good mild cigars include Helix, Fonseca, Casa Torano, and others. Ask the folks at the cigar shop for a recommendation, they won't let you down.
-
I second what Thompson said.
-
I'm also a newbie... I've had some various cigars from a shop near campus, but I know too little about them to really know what I want... It feels like not knowing the difference between an AK and a hi-point!
-
Anyone ready for a new round of cigar trading?
-
I'm in.
-
I would be interested.
-
Hello? Anyone out there?
If you were involved in the first round of cigar trading, please indicate whether you wish to do so again. This means YOU:
1) BenW
2) wmenorr67
3) ex-ma hole
4) dasmi
5) Headless Thompson Gunner
-
I guess I am game again. Considering all the free ones everyone has been sending me overhere. Guess I can have the wife send out some more.
-
Yeah, I'm down again.
-
I'll add auschip to the list. That leaves dasmi as the only question mark remaining.
Anyone new want to join us? Nick1911, perhaps? Best way to learn which cigars you like and which you don't is to smoke a bunch...
-
So, who is sending cigars to whom? I have a whole box of Kind Edwards to send to someone! (kidding)
-
Umm, whoops. I sorta forgot about this. Sorry...
OK, so everyone except dasmi said they to go another round. auschip said he wanted to be added to the list. That makes the list-keeping easy, I'll just swap one name for the other:
1) BenW
2) wmenorr67
3) ex-ma hole
4) auschip
5) Headless Thompson Gunner
Find the name on the list that falls two slots below your own:
BenW --> ex-ma hole
wmenorr67 --> auschip
...and so on
PM your recipient for his address and send ~$15 worth of stogies to him.
Happy smoking, y'all.
-
Bump. Y'all saw this, right?
-
Auschip got my address from me and I'm waiting to hear back from ex-ma hole on his.
-
Bump. Y'all saw this, right?
I just noticed this this morning-
Headless, could I get you address when you get a second?
M
-
Got your PM ex-ma hole -- I'll get yours in the mail either tomorrow or Monday.
-
No rush.
-
BenW, your cigars are mailing out today. Sorry for the delay.
-
No problem auschip. Besides, I'm not allowed to complain -- I just mailed ex-ma hole's yesterday.
-
Hey auschips pm me your address and i will have my wife get some in the mail. Got busy over here and almost forgot about this round of swapping.
-
Oh no!
Thanks for reminding me guys.
I'm in TN tonight, GA this weekend.
I get them out Monday or Tuesday.
-
Don't sweat it. Send 'em when it's convenient. This cigar trading thing is supposed to be fun, not something you stress over.
-
auschip, got the ones you sent, thanks! Where did you get that little "water pillow" humidifier you sent with them? That's pretty cool.

My local store carries them. They are pretty nice if i'm going away for a weekend or the weather is dry (in which case I add one to my humidor).
