Thanks for posting. That was enlightening. It seems every time I think Trump is making an unwise decision, I end up being surprised.

Me too. I think my position on trump was clear . If he proves me wrong it will be one of those times wrong is good

I'm impressed enough that Tillerson just didn't weasel his way out of jury duty. Plenty of people with a hell of a lot less to do will grab any excuse, and I'm sure he could have bought a good excuse for less than it cost him to be there for a week.
Actually taking it seriously enough to make a reasoned decision with all the facts tells me a lot about how he got where he is.

The man is clearly liberal in his social views. So, I'd never vote for him. Not sure about his performance as Secretary of State, as I assume Colin Powell had the same type of views.

Ayup. Not overly fond of folk who are willing to see more minors get raped so the folk can make status points and preen for the corrupt and decadent ruling class. In this sense, Tillerson is part of the problem and not the solution to a putrescent culture.
If Tillerson lets his views get the better of him and starts prosecuting World War G as SecState, I would hope Trump slaps him down. As it is, I wouldn't cry if his nomination went down in flames.

Regarding the BSA and Gays.
The country had shifted. Fundraising was drying up. (Like United Way which was a HUGE part of BSA's operating funding). Non-religious organizations were talking about/threatening to not charter Packs and Troops if they didn't change their stance, while Religious organizations were threatening to do the same if the BSA did change their stance. It looked like either way the BSA was going to lose about half their membership.
Mr Tillerson found a pretty ingenious compromise that made everyone happy, and the BSA has grown membership since then.
He decided that it would be up to each chartering organization to determine if they would allow gays to serve as adult leaders in the Pack or Troop they charter. Non-religious organizations can allow gays, while religious organizations can ban them if they prefer. If you don't like the stance of your Pack or Troop, you are welcome to join one that matches your beliefs.
An ingenious solution that satisfied everyone.

It was and is. It remains to be seen if trump will cave to the faction that will not see it that way or if they can scuttle him in the Senate. He is an excellent choice .better by order of magnitude than last two sec of state.

Not sure either. But if I had to hazard a guess little changed. To some great extent this was a crisis installed by outsiders and the scouts were wise to deal with it in a way that avoided damaging the core of scouting . It was handled wisely and diplomatically.

I have a feeling most of the members of APS would make a better Sec. of State than the last two. Hobnobbing with arrogant rich guys from foreign countries sounds a bit like hell though. [barf]
How smart do you have to be to realize that a big red "reset" button taken from a US commercial would be a good thing to put in front of foreign dignitaries? Or that an iPod loaded with Obama's great moments might not be well received as a diplomatic gift? Hell, they might have been better off finding a Spudz McKenzie retread instead of the reset button. The Obama administration set the bar pretty low.

Membership is "up" in the sense that Congress "cuts" the budget. From articles I've read, membership is down less than they expected it would have been.
