George Washington University removes US history as a requirement for history majors.

For 2017, they're going to remove calculus and differential equation courses for mathematics majors.
Physics majors won't have to worry about taking quantum mechanics or thermodynamics courses.
Medical students will be able to opt out of anatomy and drug interaction courses.
etc.

Those who do not learn from history....Boy are we screwed....
I'm starting to think we should turn about half the colleges and universities in this country into military and trade schools...

Better than my first thought, smoking piles of rubble and slag. Wich is still a vast improvement on the current condition, a steaming pile *expletive deleted*it.

As long as the admin gets slagged as well. The students might be idiots, but I blame the folks running the circus.

How about converting them to Walmarts? That would really make the academics heads explode.

Well, a lot of history majors will probably end up working there anyway, so . . .

Yep, that is the core of the problem. Also, they have a good racket going by getting idiot kids to take out expensive loans to pay the university. They have a vested interest in keeping the gravy train going.

To play devil's advocate for a moment, if someone is majoring in Ancient Egyptian, Greek or Roman history; I'm not completely sure U.S. history would really be relevant to the degree. Of course personally I think anyone majoring in History at a US college should at least have some classes in U.S. History even if their specific major is foreign or ancient history.
Now all that said. When I took a U.S. History course at CU in Boulder CO back in the early 90's required reading was Cornell West; so I'm not sure U.S. History classes are actually teaching factual U.S. History to begin with.

That could be a viable argument, especially considering the students should have learned basic concepts (like that we're a Republic) about ten years before college. Though I mostly posted the topic because this is happening first at George Washington University. :)

Funny, I just posted something on that elsewhere. Over the entrance to Norlin Library up at C.U. -Boulder:
