Title: Facebook and "Do You Know" emails
Post by: Monkeyleg on March 30, 2017, 12:42:34 PM
At least a couple of times a day I get emails from Facebook asking if I know this person or that person. I look at the people listed, and can't figure out what association I might have with them. There's no reason in the world why I'd know any of them.

I'm wondering if Facebook is going to send me every member of the site, hoping to get one hit. If so, then what?

All my bookface emails go into a folder, which I empty periodically without looking at any of them.

I don't get any emails from Facebook.  There has to be a way to turn off those emails.

Click on the little down arrow next to the help button (question mark). Click on settings. Click on notifications. Click on email. Turn everything off or to the most minimum notifications you can receive. No more emails from the book of facesBANG

I don't get those, but I do get the occasion friend request when I have NO clue who the person is.

About 75% of the time it will turn out to be someone who has a Leonberger and has seen me on one of the Leo boards.

A couple of times, however, I've been fooled.

In fact, a few months ago, Jamis and I were fooled by the same individual. I think we both thought the person was an APS member...

we both had very weird conversations with him/her/it...

I don't friendface, but because of my Google account,  I am always getting Google+ "suggestions for you" and "you may know" messages. I lock these things down on the computer, but I think the phone always resets them to Google's preferences versus mine when Google on the phone updates.  I don't know many of the names, but am guessing some of them are from here. I know Monkeyleg and Scout and Oleg always pop up there. Also a bunch of gov names that are in a contacts subgroup on the phone that I never cleaned out when I left.
