I'm getting ready to sell an old notebook computer. I've uninstalled a lot of software, deleted all personal files, run a disk wipe program so what I deleted can't be (easily) recovered, and changed the computer name and my account name to neutral, impersonal names.
I plan to please Firefox installed but delete my cookies and browsing history. What's a good neutral web site to use for a home page? Mine is Drudge Report, but in this corner of the world that's probably not going to win me any friends. Need something that won't rattle any cages.

Yahoo.com or msn.com are usually pre-installed on machines so that's a safe bet.

Can you still do a factory recovery on that? That would be the best way.
Failing that, make a new user, log in as that and delete the old user. Make sure the user profile is gone. That should get rid of any personalization.
Generic home page, how about plain old google.com. Startpage.com if you want to be able to obfuscate your searches from the overness.

What Lee said. I would never never ever never ever give away an old computer without first nuking it with DBAN and then doing a fresh install of either windoze or linux. Even if you trust the person you're giving it to now, they may give it away or dispose of it in the future.

I recently did a full system reset on this one. I haven't used it for any work, just some casual web browsing while running the machine enough to ensure that it actually works.

Google is my homepage.

Redtube.com is better... so I hear.

Google or Yahoo.com for the homepage. Or just don't set a homepage. If you delete the address out of the homepage field, Mozilla will default to the "Mozilla Firefox Start Page", which looks kind of like Google.com, but uses whatever the default search engine for the browser is.
