I don't want to oversell the importance of the special election in Georgia. Democrats were hoping it would mean something for them, if they could take the seat vacated by the HHS secretary. That's why they wasted tens of millions of dollars, reportedly making this Congressional race the most expensive in history - almost all of that on the losing, Democratic side.
I love it when they spend millions of their own money for nothing.

Whoopsie!
Of course they will make a huge deal about how close it was actually being a refutation of Trump and his evil policies.
-
I guess she knew how to Handel that Ossoff guy.
-
Even though this was one small district with a small practical impact, I'm really glad to see it went the way it did, just because of the celebrities and other "usual actors" having blown it so out of proportion and having brought in so much money from outside the district. I hate outside influences like this, regardless of the party doing it.
It probably won't teach them a lesson, but I don't mind them throwing more money away on "the resistance".
-
Even so, it's still nice to deny them any symbolic victories.
I guess it takes more than $24 million to counter Russian hacking.
-
Also, it already appears they're ready to waste more dough. Sally Kohn's reaction:
Best thing that could come out of the #GA06 results is for Democratic Party to finally give up its self-destructive obsession with centrism
WE'VE GOT TO GO FURTHER LEFT!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
He also may have lost because he says crap like this all the time:
Jon @Ossoff commends volunteers who, “as darkness has crept across this planet, have provided a beacon of hope for people here in Georgia.”
Sorry dude, you're (you were) a candidate for a congressional district, not the hero in the next Star Wars movie. Save the hyperbole for a galaxy far, far away.

Last numbers I heard were in the $30-35 Million range just on the D side....(and it could be more....)

Man, I hope so. I saw a figure for $60 million, both sides, but I don't know where that comes from.

B-b-but, guys, money totally buys elections!
Never mind this election, or that Hillary outspent Trump 2:1...

What's the Harry Potter thing about?

What's the Harry Potter thing about?
Democrats like to compare Trump (and Republicans in general) to Voldemort.
(ETA: laughing my Ossoff at the results)

I'm thinkin' it would be nice to turn purple Colorado back to red Colorado.
In 2013 two dems here were booted out of office with recall elections and one resigned under the threat of recall activity, but all three of those offices went back to dems later on anyhow.
They were recalls based on a single-issue (gun control), but there were more than just that single issue involved in the "recall" of the last Presidential election.
It kind of showed what a bunch of deplorable ignorant rednecks can do if they put their minds to politicking instead of just bellyaching to each other about them darned "libtards."
But the momentum was lost after we got done patting ourselves on the back and went back to the fridge for another beer... as it were.
Nevertheless even back then, it should have sent a message to the democrats to think about changing their ways.
I still have a "Recall Hudak" sticker on the inside of my door to remind me of all this.

MSNBC's current lead head on their website...
JOE: Ossoff's loss should be a wake-up call for Dems (http://www.msnbc.com/morning-joe/watch/joe-ossoff-s-loss-should-be-a-wake-up-call-for-dems-972620355803)
You'd think they would have figured that out last November.
The guy being interviewed in the link above is categorizing this as an absolute disaster for the Democrats.
-
And here's Rachel Maddow telling the liberal elite just what a wonderful thing these four special elections, all of which the Democrats LOST, are for Democrats.
Absolutely *expletive deleted*ing delusional.

Gutfeld makes a good point about a comparison to "Russian meddling". There were 7000 contributions from CA as compared to 800 from Georgia. It wasn't stated what the numbers from NY, etc. were. I expect also higher than GA residents, but would be curious to know.

Now The Federalist is calling Ossoff "the Wendy Davis of 2017."
Also, I didn't realize that Handel won by 6 points.* Yeah, it's close compared to other races, but it only shows that the Democrats can almost be competitive in a solid red, Southern district, if the whole, national party focuses on that race, and funnels mountains of cash into that race.
*NYT says 4 points. I guess we'll see how the numbers firm up.

IIRC, Trump won that district by 1. Good job, Dems!

California Democrats donated 30 Million to watch a Donkey get screwed in Georgia, when they could have just gone across the border to Tijuana to see that for $5.

Oh, I almost died on this one:

"Was it from Ossoff? Because that would be true. "

Since Trump (or the Russians or Comey [who should have been fired in 2016, but not in 2017]) stole that election in November, that really wasn't a wake up call. This won't be a wake up call either because that type always self justifies.

What? Supporters of a white privileged male are turning away from an empowered female?
When we did that with Hillary, we were accused of all sorts of nasty isms...

It doesn't mean much, of course, but we all know how this would play if the partisan alliances were reversed.

Oh, that's funny. It really does. I wonder if his handlers got him to do that?
Though I guess the fact that he's an empty suit suggests that his handlers choreographed everything he did.

He's a fairly young guy; a Democratic politician - he's probably seen every Obama speech twelve times, and that's just what he thinks a good political speech is supposed to sound like. Hey, at least he's talking - not just tweeting, and staring at the screen. ;/

I just heard on the teevee that Handel has now received at least one letter with unidentified white powder.
"When they go low, we go high".

This is in addition to the ones she got last week, or is that old news?

From the gist of the talking heads, apparently post-election.

I wasn't going by the linked article - I was going by Fox Business this morning. They made it sound like it just happened (again) yesterday. They could be doing a mash up though. :)
