in saying that America is moving towards authoritarianism is that it's not his brand of socialist authoritarianism.
If it were, he'd be all for it.

The article quotes Bernie:
βAnd that is, no matter what our political view β whether we are progressives, conservatives or moderates β we must do everything that we can to preserve American democracy and oppose the current drift toward authoritarianism that I believe President Trump represents.β
Kind of ironic coming from a guy who's own party threw him under the bus to anoint Hillery.
-
The idea that Donald Trump is more authoritarian that most other Washington critters, especially his more prominent critics, is laughable. As surreal as Trump's election may have been, it's just as surreal that anyone could take the Trump-as-Hitler caricature seriously.
-
Authoritarianism is apparently defined by lefties as "someone who disagrees with me is getting their way".

It's kind of ironic coming from a self avowed socialist, since socialism is pretty authoritarian.. ;/..

So a synonym for hate, fascism, Russians and/or Floridians stole the election, etc.

Unfortunately, people used to say the same thing about Hitler, before he really keyed into populism and attracted the masses.
I'm not saying that about Trump, though, I'm saying that about Bernie.
His brand of socialism -- the "Free *expletive deleted*it Society, as I call it -- struck an incredible tone with a lot of younger people. It was the adoration of the masses that allowed Hitler to rise to power, backed with all sorts of street mob violence (Berkley, anyone?)
Bernie might claim that that's where Trump is heading, but I really think that if the economy were to go south again and Bernie were to mount another run for president, he might very well win.
And then, I suspect, we'd see the rise of real authoritarianism in this country.
Bernie might claim to be a man of the people. But I think his "man of the people" schtick is just a very thin veneer democracy hiding dyed in the wool Stalin-style communism. Comparisons to Hitler not withstanding, you can't say Fascism, because an element of fascism is ultra nationalism, and I truly believe that Bernie HATES, with unbridled passion, what the United States is.

Unfortunately the prosperity in America has trained up a lot of the younger generation to expect "Free *expletive deleted*it". Most of them have done nothing with respect to understanding one needs to work for *expletive deleted*it.
-
See, that's the thing...
It's not just America's prosperity, it's a combination of our prosperity coupled with the European free *expletive deleted*it societies.
I want 15 weeks vacation every year like in France!
I want to retire with a full pension at age 48 like in Greece!
I want someone to make all of my decisions for me from the day I'm born to until the day I die, just Scandanavia!
The stupid little wastrels don't understand that America made the modern Western European Social State possible because we footed most of Europe's reconstruction after World War II AND we footed the lion's share of Europe's defense against the Soviet bloc. No wonder the Western European socialist states had money to *expletive deleted*ing burn on free *expletive deleted*it.

Bernie apparently has something else to worry about, after all:

I thought I had heard about this before, and I was right. Burlington College closed up shop just about a year ago, and it was mostly because of the real estate deal that Mrs. Sanders suckered them into:

What a surprise: Socialist elites spending other people's money unwisely.

Once again, the difference between a democracy and a republic is being ignored.
There are times I could swear there's a subcommittee in the democratic party devoted exclusively to screwing up the language to their advantage.

"Two donors were listed as pledging more than they actually had and a third was listed as willing to donate in the near future despite specifying her donation wouldn't be made until after she died. "
See, there's nothing really wrong with that deal about the third donor, because she's a close, personal friend of the Clintons, and everyone knows how that works out for people...
