Title: Random question - chair casters
Post by: Perd Hapley on June 23, 2017, 01:41:56 PM: Any advice on finding decent-quality casters for an office chair? Or do I just get whatever Home Depot has in stock?

There are several that have pivot bearings as well as rolling bearings. I would get one of those.

Strange, the URL pulls up an a proper image but it doesn't work inside and image tag!

Post by: AJ Dual on June 24, 2017, 10:23:13 PM: Assuming Home Depot's hardware and fittings aisle is consistent from store to store, don't bother looking there. The only casters they have that are office-chair sized are just the nylon hub/hole riding on a chromed steel pin, and the hole on them will just egg out on you eventually. They have bearings in the rotating Lazy Susan part, but that's it. You have to go up to ones about 3-4" in diameter before they have bearings in the hubs.

It's fine for something like a tool cart or whatever that gets moved a few times a week, but for a chair or something that moves every day it'll wear out quick.
