Title: Random question - chair casters
Post by: Perd Hapley on June 23, 2017, 01:41:56 PM
Any advice on finding decent-quality casters for an office chair? Or do I just get whatever Home Depot has in stock?

https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=chair+casters

There are several that have pivot bearings as well as rolling bearings.  I would get one of those.

Ah! I see! You can go to it directly by pasting the URL in your browser but you can't link to it!

Lousy joke anyhow... chair caster...  too much of a stretch.

Ignore.

I won't use it in the 10 o'clock show.

Assuming Home Depot's hardware and fittings aisle is consistent from store to store, don't bother looking there. The only casters they have that are office-chair sized are just the nylon hub/hole riding on a chromed steel pin, and the hole on them will just egg out on you eventually. They have bearings in the rotating Lazy Susan part, but that's it. You have to go up to ones about 3-4" in diameter before they have bearings in the hubs.

It's fine for something like a tool cart or whatever that gets moved a few times a week, but for a chair or something that moves every day it'll wear out quick.
