Title: Facebook so weird sometimes
Post by: Perd Hapley on July 29, 2017, 12:50:58 AM
A couple of months ago, I started a Facebook account, just so I could look at Facebook pages without having that big box pop up in front of it. I tweaked some settings, but aside from that, I didn't do anything on it.

Now, when I try to log in, it tells me that I must upload a photo of my face, so they can "check it." After they "check it," they will permanently delete it. Given that I've uploaded no photos of myself, are they just going to kick it back, and tell me to get lost? Or will they verify it, implying that they already have my face, attached to that email address, in a database? If the latter, do they acknowledge having this information?

I've never had that happen.

Your profile activity matches that of an ISIS recruiter/scammer. I'd assume that they are going to run the face through an image recognition program to see if any other profile is claiming it.

There have been more cases of fake profiles running around Facebook and messaging folks in phishing attacks in the last couple years.  The ISIS/Africa folks are particularly known for using other people's photos.*

*Side note:  Several of the vets groups I'm in on Facebook have shared phishing attempts where the fake profile was a picture of various porn stars.  Which just goes to show how little they understand their enemies.  In one case the target not only identified the actress, but the particular movie they had gotten the picture from.

My profile pic is the headless horseman.

But yeah.  What Dogmush said.  Send me a FB friend request, I think you know some folks here that are on FB.  I think that if you're friends with people that post on FB frequently, then FB doesn't think you are a scammer/spammer/terrorist/hooker.

This is why I think antisocial media will be the next big thing.
(Ok, maybe not that big)

Mine is the oldest picture of me that I have.  Prob. a week or two old.

Upload any photo you want, then when Facebook blocks it, you can complain about them assuming your identity/gender/sex/pronoun/adverb/height/weight/astrological sign/IQ/bra size.

When they forced me to change from "Speedy" to "Alfred" I had to send in a valid form of picture ID to get access to my account back and am forced to use my "legal" name which NO ONE, including FAMILY, knows me by!

Lighten up, Francis Alfred.

You could change and put "Speedy" in quotes in your FB name.   I have a friend on FB (and IRL) who has a completely made up name.

With a name like "Speedy," I'm surprised they didn't try to get your parents involved.

I got that name by virtue of being born 9 mo, 2 days after they were married and have been called that since birth. Virtually NO ONE who actually knows me, including family, has ever known me as "Alfred."
