I feel so SAFE now!
http://abcnews.go.com/Lifestyle/nypd-dog-recovering-injury-sustained-major-gun-bust/story?id=49206081
Cops find guns. K-nine falls through ceiling, hurts leg(s).
During the operation, the dog helped officials recover nearly 10 guns and multiple rounds of ammunition, police said.
"nearly" ten guns, eh? Did someone run out of fingers? How hard is it to count some number "nearly" ten? Whould that be, like ... nine? Eight?
And -- OHMYGOD!!! -- "multiple" rounds of ammunition! News flash -- TWO rounds qualifies as "multiple." How many did they actually find?

How can we in the media panic the unwashed masses if you actually insist that we report facts and the truth !!!!

They make "nearly ten guns" sound like it's a lot. I can't remember when I owned fewer than ten firearms. I must have once, because I remember the first one I ever bought ... but that was awhile ago.

Why are we naming police dogs after mediocre Soviet Red Army Marshals ??

One gun is a lot in NYC. Unless you're privileged. And five can be quite legitimately rounded up to "nearly ten" to better fit your agenda. For that matter, four can be rounded up to five, and then five rounded up to nearly ten. Depends on how much EEK! you want your readers to think. Or not to think, just to emote.
Control the language, control the useful idiots.
Control the press, control the language.
Ayup.
