It would make one of these things actually watchable.

I'm not sure I'll watch it. Probably just get the highlights.
I'm cracking up though, at all the "Peoples SOTU" response/resistance/protests that are popping up. They are all claiming to be "official". Sounds like they are going to end up splitting up the small audience they were going to get. I think there are a good half dozen of them right now, all with "headline celebrities" of one stripe or another.
-
He should totally go off script and just read the FISA memo.

I wish they'd do an interview with that guy, and see how he's doing in the concentration camp.

That's a guy? I always thought it was a woman, likely a professor of women's studies.

Apparently a woman, though I don't know her vocation. You understand my confusion, I think.
-
Something else that could be amusing tonight:
https://twitchy.com/sarahd-313035/2018/01/30/its-on-gop-rep-paul-gosar-and-sen-jeff-flake-get-into-it-over-dreamers-at-sotu/
"Beneficiaries". I.e., people getting free stuff.
-

I did hear that Trump ordered the memo to be released immediately after the speech.
I don't know if that is because he will talk about it or it will overshadow all the response speeches.
-

Patton Oswalt is a comedian.
-
He should start with "Hey Barack, remember when you said you couldn't see me giving the SOTU. BWWWWWWWAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!!!"
-
That's a guy? I always thought it was a woman, likely a professor of women's studies.
Hard to say. I always figured guy, as in technically male.
-

My thought as well. Or at least use his own speech that no one knows about. It seems all the news sites already know what he will be talking about. It would be awesome if Trump just whipped out his own speech and went in a totally different direction. That would baffle the talking heads and completely invalidate the Dem’s rebuttle speech.

Since when has a Dem rebuttal ever had any kind of validity?

I'm wondering if I should watch the media analysis afterwards . . . I remember doing so during the Reagan administration and on some networks there was a total disconnect between what Reagan actually said vs. the media fabrication of what they wanted the public to think Reagan said. I expect nothing less with the Trump SOTU.
Wonder if the Dems are planning some "resist" action, like organized heckling or a timed mass walkout in the middle.
-

That will be interesting given how outraged the dems were about "You lie!". My bet is that "you lie" will be tame in comparison to what will be said/done tonight. I wouldn't be surprised to hear some DACA outbursts, especially with what looks like a dozen or more of them in the room as congressional guests. Though it appears the politicians most likely to make a theatrical scene already said they're boycotting.

It is all scripted and the script is already written. If you want to watch for the laughs, go ahead, but try not to let it affect your blood pressure.

What if he just stopped mid sentence and started eating a sandwich?
-
^^^^What charby said.
-
Tom Brokaw needs to go away.
Also the news folks are saying Pelosi has told her side not to do anything "rude".
-
So Tom, it's news that Bob Mueller isn't there?
-
Wow. Trump is amazing.
He's up there with Reagan.
Such a huge and welcome and hopeful change from the last guy.
-
Aww, Chuck Todd has a disappoint!
-
Wow, President Trump held it together, did not go off topic, and did a pretty good speech.
-
It was indeed very polished and scripted, complete with supporting characters.
-
What if he just stopped mid sentence and started eating a sandwich?
Better or worse if Melania brought it to him?
-
And now a Kennedy spawn going on about how America is horrible.
-
Did anyone listen to the SOTU address? What did he say, and how did he say it?

I DVR'ed it and am listening now. Saying lots of different things. See the youtube link above (I hadn't realized C-SPAN had a youtube page).

I was waiting for, "This message brought to you by the Gorilla Channel."
-
Remarks about supporting 1 and 2A and about appointing Justices who would interpret the highest law of the land "as written" was spicing up enough for me.
Going after the foreign criminal gangs tooth and nail was an additional good side dish.
Those lockstep Democrats. Can't they see what asses they're making themselves out to be? Do they have any conception of reality whatsoever? Are they all just dogma-driven?
Terry
-
I thought it was a positive, powerful speech, touting all sorts of positives - support for the Second Amendment, appointment of judges who will interpret the Constitution the was it was intended, ISIS on the run, 8 trillion added to the stock market, millions of Americans with improved 401(k) results, low female unemployment, historically low black unemployment (black democrats didn't even get their thumbs out of their bums to applaud that), 200,000 more manufacturing jobs, billions more invested in the US by Exxon and Apple, Chrysler factory moving from Mexico to Michigan, big tax cuts for everyone - lots and lots of positives.
Single most memorable line? Perhaps "Because Americans are dreamers, too."
Also - without mentioning names - he gored some of the Democrats' sacred cows:
* More bad guys to Gitmo. (TAKE THAT, OBAMA!)
* Iran nuke deal was bad. (TAKE THAT, OBAMA!)
* Success of the new ROEs for our troops in the sandbox. (TAKE THAT, OBAMA!)
* Repeal of the horrible individual mandate. (TAKE THAT, OBAMA!)
* Americans honor their country during the National Anthem. (TAKE THAT, NFL!)
Pelosi's scowl was plastered on her face, but by the way her jaw was moving either her dentures were pinching or she was chewing her cud.
And now a Kennedy spawn going on about how America is horrible.
Legitimate or illegitimate spawn?
No matter. This Kennedy (who to me, seemed to be fighting back tears) gave a whiny speech which included support for Black Lives Matter.
Text of Trump's speech is at http://www.foxnews.com/us/2018/01/30/text-president-donald-trumps-state-union-address.html (http://www.foxnews.com/us/2018/01/30/text-president-donald-trumps-state-union-address.html)
-
HamkB that would be because the black Dems don't want their constituents to have jobs. With jobs comes financoap independence, they want their voters to stay on the welfare plantation
-
Oh my the libs and the media are just beside themselves this morning.
Sweet, sweet, schadenfreude.
-
Now I wish I had watched the whole thing. I'll have to catch a recording.
I liked the "Americans are Dreamers" line too.
Also, it appears the Dems in the room (and celebrities and the other usuals) are out of touch with their constituency. From the polls, the average dem had a higher approval (or lower resistance, depending on how you look at it) than any of the dems that represent them. Those jackasses couldn't stand or even clap for a 12 year old kid putting flags on military graves. I heard there were some boos, but don't know where they came from. Was it politicians, or their guests?
Also, mean spirited, but the "Joe Kennedy drooling" thing was kinda funny, only because I've come to hate political dynasties. Drooling is what happens a few generations into a dynasty.
-
A couple of other things I just read:
They apparently didn't even clap about Scalise surviving the shooting and rejoining them. Couldn't even clap for a coworker surviving?
Also, great quote by Greg Gutfeld:
Progressivism is the fear that someone somewhere is making America look good.

Which is an offensive thing to say, supposedly. I didn't watch the Grammy awards, but didn't one of those pop star political experts say "We're all dreamers," or something similar?

CBS News poll showing 75% viewer approval rating for SOTU. Let that sink in a sec... CBS. That CBS. National network CBS. Kinda hard to digest that they would even print a result so in Trump's favor, much less in a reasonably objective way. I'm genuinely shocked.

I didn't get to listen to it all (busy putting and keeping the children in bed), but I laughed out loud (enough to make the children run out of their beds to see what was so funny) after his "And that is why we stand for the flag and the national anthem."
Expert trolling. Says something that ought not to be controversial and the Dems sit on their hands. I'm still in awe of how they chose to put themselves AGAINST the flag and the national anthem. (And of course, Trump nails them on it.)

I stood for the national anthem yesterday. Twelve gay black women of color died.

Sen Kennedy sounded like he was running for student council president. So empassioned so totally caught up in words other people wrote.
His response seemed to have been written either before the speech or just made up of talking points unrelated to anything covered in the SOTU address. Mentioning the need to address items already promised by the President and making sure he included a reference to !!RUSSIA!!
-
I was slightly disappointed that his recognition of heroic acts didn't mention Stephen Willeford, but I also wouldn't be surprised if that was at Willeford's own request, since he was there as Rep Cuellar's guest.

Am I the only one who thought Nancy Pelosi was having serious problems with her skin-suit? I expected her true lizard-alien form to pop out any minute.

I saw her and the first thing I thought was Tardive Dyskinesia. If you read about it, it is probable. Given her age and other hand waving mannerisms I also thought Parkinson's meds. ;)
I guarantee if POTUS were making those movements the liberal press would be all over it and CNN's Dr. in residence, Dr. Gupta, would probably do a 2 hour special on the affliction and make sure the innuendo was that the POTUS was unfit because "What is he hiding about his medical history?".

They explain the result by claiming that only Republicans watch SOTU addresses by Republican presidents.

I haven't watched on by any President in many years. I think I watched maybe one of W. Bush's speeches. I do find Trump easier to listen to.
-
I think the last SOTU address I watched in its entirety was Bush's 2002 address because it was 4 months after the September 11 attacks.
-
Wow, even HuffPo polls are getting smacked. Hard.
77% favorable rating for SOTU on one of their own polls. I would have figured HuffPo readers to come down pretty solidly on the other side of the line, or at least somewhere more centric.

Apparently a CBS poll found nearly 50% of Democrats liked the speech.
You think that's making the Democratic leadership sit up and take notice?
I think if they're smart they will, but they've proved to be anything but.
-
but they've proved to be anything but.
Certainly with 50% of democrats thinking that $1000 is more than "crumbs", I'm going with "anything but".
-
They explain the result by claiming that only Republicans watch SOTU addresses by Republican presidents.
Obviously, that's due to "experimental error" and they should adjust the results accordingly.
>:D

I think that at this point they are fully in tunnel vision mode, panicky, committed to unseating Trump, via whatever means. No time for polls or public opinion.
-
The obvious solution is to go harder to the left.

Since at least the 2016 campaign, possibly since the installation of Obama, we have a hostage situation. The Democrats that know better and that I might vote for cannot sound reasonable, govern, or agree with a republican. So much vile rhetoric has passed that to have any platform predicated on adult behavior will be taken as dining with the enemy. Any move and the far left will drop the grenade. So, keep on getting more radical. Ten months to elections. We run on what besides reeeeeeeeeee?
-
"Democrats were widely criticized by Republicans for their behavior during the address, with some refusing to stand for even non-partisan applause lines -- such as applauding guests or hailing low black unemployment."
Of course the Dems don't want to applaud low African-American unemployment. It would tend to cut into their voting base AND their screeching points if Republicans are seen to be making things better in the A-A community.
-
screeching points
LOL
