Title: Too Little, Too Late Department - Parkland Bureau

The superintendent of the Parkland school district has done a 180 and now is considering installing metal detectors, whereas a month ago he was against them. Moreover (and IMHO worse):

In the letter sent Wednesday, Runcie said the school is pairing with law enforcement to administer "code red" training for active-shooting drills and upgrade surveillance camera systems. The district also plans to require visitors at the school to enter through a single point of entry.

I did a double-take when I read the above. I can't believe that any school in the United States today does NOT already require all visitors to enter through a single point of entry. Not having that requirement is nothing but idiocy stacked on top of incompetence.
