Just came here to post this.
Normally, I don't care about actors, but Ermey seemed like an all-around good guy.
-
Rest in Peace, Marine.
-
Damn.
-
RIP. I agree, he seemed like a good Joe. I really liked Mail Call. I have the DVDs. I reckon I need to break them out.
-
Darn. Didn’t see that one coming.

I don't think he was acting.
I'll miss him.

=(
Bummer, I liked his acting work and his documentary stuff. I guess the evil watermelons finally got him.
-
Damn. RIP gunny.
-
Dayam. Enjoyed his stuff. Rest in peace.

I could quote Full Metal Jacket pretty much from start to end in high school. One of my favorite movies ever.
But the best role he had for me was when he played the Janitor's father on Scrubs.
:'(
He was awesome.
-
Damn, that sucks.
Godspeed, Gunny.
Met the guy a couple of times at NRAAM. Friendly dude.
-
=(
RIP, and thanks for what you gave to the world
-
I was shocked to learn he was 74. Lately, he'd been looking much older.
-
Complications of pneumonia according to his manager. The world is a lesser place without the Gunny. Godspeed and Semper Fi, sir.

"If the army and the navy could look on Heaven's scenes,
They would find the streets are guarded by United States Marines."
R. I. P. Gunny. Guard those streets well!
-
The world has been diminished. RIP Gunny. :'( :'(

Semper Fi, Gunny. RIP

Somehow I think R. Lee Ermey would appreciate "Duffelblog vs Matthew Modine".

"Private Joker can't take a joke" was hilarious.
Duffelblog is almost as funny as Babylon Bee. (Probably because I get the jokes easier at Babylon Bee vs. Duffelblog...)

Being out of the military for so long, there's stuff I don't relate to as well. With the Babylon Bee, there plenty of jokes about whatever is currently fashionable in Christendom I don't get. Thank goodness.

Fair seas and following winds, Marine.

"Holy Jesus! What is that? What the f*** is that? What is this, Private Pyle?"
"Sir, a jelly donut Sir."
"A jelly donut?"
"Sir, yes Sir!"
"How did it get here?"
"Sir, I took it from the mess hall, Sir."
"Is chow allowed in the barracks, Private Pyle?"
"Sir, no Sir!"
"Are you allowed to eat jelly donuts, Private Pyle?"
"Sir, no Sir!"
"And why not, Private Pyle?"
"Sir, because I'm too heavy, Sir."
"Because you are a disgusting fatbody, Private Pyle."
Why would anyone think D'Onofrio might have PTSD?

He sure developed a case of PTSD after Trump was elected .... >:D

The story I've heard about Full Metal Jacket is that Ermey was hired as a consultant because he had been a DI, and was there to coach the actor hired to play the DI.
Kubrick heard Ermey working with the guy and immediately hired Ermey for the part, and fired the other guy.
Then proceeded to tell Kubrick in no uncertain terms that the dialog that had been written for the part was absolute *expletive deleted*it, so Kubrick gave him carte blanche to come up with his own dialog on the fly.

I saw an interview of D'Onofrio, discussing the making of Full Metal Jacket. He apparently has a mouth like a sewer.
