It's now much easier to get up from the sofa, but I don't really want to.

You put plywood under the cushions when the springs break.

Serpentine springs. They're asking a lot of those springs. I just filled the space with old books and stuff. Design defect. They should have figured out a better way of doing it, although I guess just more of them would've done the trick.

AKA zig-zag springs.
Repairing them seems to be a specialty occupation.

Hmm.. Or even just going to box springs like under a mattress. Massive more durability.
the trick: They want you to buy a new sofa every 5-10 years.
