WARWICK, R.I. -- A new lunchtime rule at a Catholic school in Warwick. Talking is now banned.
The principal of the Saint Rose of Lima School banned talking at lunch after three students choked in the cafeteria.
A spokesman for the Providence Diocese says the school is enacting a temporary safety measure.

Flashing back to Basic Training.

When I was in sixth grade, my teacher forbade us to speak at lunch because there was a classroom attached to the lunchroom, and the wall between them was exceptionally thin (I discovered this when I had History in that room in seventh and eighth grades...). How is no talking a "safety" measure?

People take big mouthfuls of food, then try to talk and wind up inhaling big chunks of partially-chewed food-stuffs. Kinda like how some people can't walk and chew gum at the same time.
