I saw this on the news today.

I can't wait for the sob story (and inevitable gofundme) from the first idiot that tries to explain a gram to US Customs on the Canada-Washington border.

"But but but, it's legal bro!"

You gotta know our border patrol people are polishing up their jackboots, this is going to be too fun. Pretty much destroys enforcement here, which I am fine with. Just imagine a drug dog at an airport, hit on every bag. Now we know why Chompy looks so excited while he is dreaming.

Maybe all the Trump haters finally move now.

I drove up to Canada last month, eh.  The Canadian border guard was much more strict and humorless than the American, but at least she was hot.  The US Border Patrol agent was friendly, nice, and barely questioned us.

I've read quiet a few of those types of stories about the Canadian border guards.

You should have told her you are a Haitian refugee...

I live in the Detroit area, where 19 and 20 year olds regularly cross the border because Canada's drinking age is 19.  When we went at that age, Windsor also had the bonus of a casino (The Detroit ones didn't exist yet).

Having made the trip probably a hundred times, I concur that the Canadian border guards are much more strict, and lacking in humor.  It was very common to have our cars subjected to a random search.  If we had a black man in the car, it was guaranteed.

Conversely, the US border guards were so laid back that there were many cases when they didn't ask us ANY questions, and in some cases were busy reading a book and didn't even look at us!  It may be worth noting that this was pre- 9/11.

Maybe this will take some of the pressure of off the legal weed states here in the U.S.  I've love to be able to go to Fort Collins and not get accosted for bud money when walking down the street.

I heard some commentator talking about this putting "pressure" on the U.S. (or the less permissive states) to legalize. That doesn't make sense to me. If anything, though I favor legalization, this makes me want to hold off on that for a while. Let's watch Canada for a decade or two, and see what happens. We may learn something. They may have problems that we can avoid, if we choose to legalize.

I thought I read that Trump was getting ready to pursue a policy of, "whatever a state wants". I guess that could be a good setup for an experiment.
