He had Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS) and his cartoon show has made billions for Nickelodeon.

SpongeBob was a great show. RIP!

I've always thought his show was crap.
However, my taste doesn't seem to be very common and he brought amusement to millions (more?) of people. I'd say that counts as a great success. RIP Mr. Hillenburg.

I didn't like it at first but it grew on me. I understand season 5 was the "worst".

There are certain episodes that are just trippy and you don't need to be high to get weirded out by them.
I never really got into them (not to my taste) but it was a decent show for what it was.

My wife loves Spongebob. Me? "Eh?"
-
No love for his creation, but sucks to go that young from ALS.
RIP, weird cartoon dude.

I liked the fan theory that Bikini Bottom was actually where Bikini Atoll was, so every character was weird because they were basically at the site of the nuclear test....
That said, I hated the show, but I feel for the guy. Not a good way to go.

Sponge Bob? Seriously? lol
-
My grand kids all like Sponge Bob so I've seen way more of it than is healthy for a middle aged, misanthropic curmudgeon such as myself.

My g/kids where watching that show. I’ve seen maybe 2-3 episodes.
I asked my daughter if she would stop allowing them to watch it. She asked why?
I told her to pay attention to the Krab character. He is the only character that deals in money and pay attention to how he is characterized.
Evil. Mean. Greedy. Treats Spongebob like a dog.
Underlying message? Capitalism is evil.
She agreed.
