Almost 60% of the gun deaths were suicide. The highest gun suicide rates were among white males and the highest gun homicide rates were among black males.
The WebMD article has some typos in it; the number of gun deaths is later also cited as the same number for gun suicides, which must be an error. I was interested to see that the age-adjusted rate of gun deaths increased from 1999 to 2017; I would have thought that better trauma care would have decreased the rate.
