For me Jesus will always be the reason for the season. While the date of his actual birth and incarnation probably wasn’t during our winter solstice I’ve come to terms with that and just roll with it :angel:
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called

It was probably not this time of year, but IMHO this is a good time to celebrate the coming of the Light of the World because there's not much natural daylight right now (at least up here.) A little supernatural light is greatly appreciated.

I do not wish to offend anyone so please accept with no obligation, expressed or implied, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling, and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great. This is, of course, neither to suggest nor imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country; also, this is not to imply that "America," as noted herein, is the only America in the Western Hemisphere. May these heartfelt wishes be received with equal intensity regardless of distribution of individual wealth, documented carbon footprint, or perceived social privilege among the wishes addressed herein. This wish is made without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith, or sexual preference of any recipient.
Personally, I would much rather say Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. May we never forget the reason for the season.

I've found that more people are offended by "Happy Holidays" than "Merry Christmas." When I was a little kid, the two phrases were interchangeable. Now, too many people think HH means, "Christmas is stupid, and so are you, and Hans Gruber did nothing wrong."

When I was a kid, "Happy Holidays" was resorted to when addressing friends who were known to be Jewish or some other non-Christian religion. It was done out of respect for their religion, so as not to offer them a salutation that they didn't relate to.
Today? It has become a poster child for political correctness. Today we don't use "Happy Holidays" out of respect for anything or any one, we use it because we have been intimidated by the forces of evil, who will stop at nothing until they have eradicated all vestiges of religious faith from our lives and from our society. We are now not allowed to use "Merry Christmas."
A pox on political correctness. I attended Christmas Eve church service last night with a Colt 1911 strapped to my hip. I'm proud to be one of Hillary's deplorables, clinging to my guns and religion.

We had Christmas for the two daughters and their families on Sunday. Prime rib and all the fixin's. My son and his family are still in Columbus OH, but Briana has her last checkup on the 28th, and then they will head home. We will celebrate Christmas with them on the 30th. It's been kind of a broken up holiday season, but the results are worth it!

That's crackin' me up because my dad made me do the same kind of thing after he bought our first tape recorder, plus having to tell it all about Christmas. It brought much hilarity to family gatherings (and embarrassment to me) a couple of decades later. I'm still not sure if I'm sad or happy that the tape disappeared somewhere along the way. :laugh:

Merry Christmas to all. All the family was here this morning for a big breakfast and gifts. Then they all trickled off to various and sundry other family members. Very peaceful now with the fireplace and a good book. Oh and some homemade chocolates and maybe some sippin' rum in a little while. Today is Swmbo's birthday too.

I still have the vinyl pressing of that but dubbed it to Digital MP3 some years back. This is the first time I made it public. Only a very small handful had ever heard it until today.
VERY glad I have it and can hear my dad's loving voice... :old:

I'm still waiting for that peaceful fire, book, liquor time. It's still a few hours off for me yet. I'm currently eating various flavors of Play-doh ice cream. :laugh:

Well, quiet time has arrived, but I have to skip the roaring fire. All the guests wanted the fire going in the woodstove all day for that Christmas feel, so now the house is like 78deg. :laugh:
I'll probably open a window, dim the lights, and start a little fire with kindling just before bedtime so I can sit and contemplate for awhile and sip my Christmas Grand Marnier. :)

Ben, Swmbo went off to bed a half hour ago. She said thanks for the birthday greeting. She was up at 5:30 AM EST to fix the breakfast for our clan. I've got another two fat fingers of Bourbon to sip on and cruise the 'net for a little while. Glad you're having a quiet time now. Warm regards from Michigan.

Had great conversations with two sons and DIL. Also got a phone message from a former Boss lady.
Idiot next door hollered at me again for running kitchen water too long as I hand-washed a couple of things. Marred day a little, but I fell back on the old "Don't let the pinheads get you down" saying.
Warm feelings reading about youse guys winding down after a full day.
