Saw this on twitter today. Found the same youtube video. I have no idea what he put in the ground or exactly what he was trying to do, but I am not sure it worked. If it was ants, I think this would just spread them around more. Not sure what it would do to hornets.
Any thoughts on what he used to get the explosion?
-
Note the beetle on the tile trying to evacuate...the wrong way. After the explosion he's coming back the other way. LOL.

MAPP gas or propane maybe?

MAPP gas or propane maybe?
Had to be oxygen in there too. MAPP alone just burns at the surface for a few seconds.

At the bottom right, does that look like part of a cylinder cart to you?

It was a wheelbarrow.

Something Bill Nye might have actually been useful for. Today we're going to learn about fuel air mixture of combustibles, kids.

I saw this same video on another forum. I don't know where the info was collected, but the video was described as a fellow trying to get rid of a mole problem with oxy/acetylene.

Moles seem like a more likely scenario than ants.

It appears he was successful.

Maybe he should try getting a nitrogen or CO2 cylinder and just purging the hole. Less explody.
-
Would have probably been fine with oxy-propane, or air-acetylene.

You filthy heretic!

What ever happened to drowning the damn things?

Explosive gas is more fun. Just like detcord.

What ever happened to drowning the damn things?
Sissy liberal idea.
Explosions are the answer. More explosion = more betterer.
-
Plus, explosions make things much deader . . . .

As long as you are careful not to destroy your house or break the foundation.

Oxy-propane and air-propane mixes make a pretty good bang. It's used in commercial prairie dog, mole, and gopher elimination, for "cannons" to scare birds away in orchards and other places, as "light"houses (in the olden days) for maritime warnings, starting golf tournaments and sailboat races, and all kinds of stuff.
Arguably, the most common gas-air salute cannon for entertainment makes use of an acetylene-air mix in the "Big Bang" cannon which is still available:

In action:

The acetylene is generated within the cannon by the reaction of calcium carbide and water, just as in the old miner's "carbide lamp."

Still available? Great! Off to go shopping.

Yep.
Look it up.

My ears are hurting just looking at that chart... tinnitus anyone?

Well, cover your ears:

The ag ones have adjustable timing between automatic shots.
A longer video showing an antique one run on carbide/acetylene. Poor audio (background conversation, wind rustle) but an interesting mechanism. I noticed the trumpeting of the barrel (diverging, like a trumpet) presumably to better couple the blast to the ambient air.

I need something like that to mock up as a deck gun for my sailboat.

I just got home from a Sabaton concert, and that chart doesn't go high enough.
