After 12 years of battling cancer and kidney failure, too many other things have started going wrong. I continue to build up fluid in my abdomen, even with medication my blood pressure stays in the toilet and my stomach and intestines are in constant pain preventing me from eating. I have no fight left in me. I am going to home hospice care. Robert will keep you updated.

I'm at a loss for words, I'm hoping for a miracle.

So sorry, Scout. That just sucks. We'll be praying for you and your family.
-
My prayers are with you Scout.
-
Very sorry to hear this. I second the miracle hopes.
-
I also don't know what to say, other than "hope". My thoughts and prayers are with you Dave.
-
Damn, Scout.
I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you have one more trick up your sleeve. If you don't, please know that you've made APS and the world a great place to be.
-
I have no words. You're one of the bravest men I know.
-

Indeed. I consider myself fortunate to have made Dave's acquaintance in not just APS, but the real world as well.

Me too.
Dave, if you're up to a visitor at some point and I can swing the trip I'd love to stop by.
-
I am very happy to have met you, the wit and strength you faced a fight against fantastic odds certainly helped me with rough times of my own.

Don't know what to say.
-
So very sorry to hear this, Dave. I very much hope and pray for a miracle.
-
We're here for you, Buddy, even if it's just a sympathetic ear (keyboard?). We'll keep the prayers coming and our fingers crossed for the aforementioned Miracle. In the meantime, you've done all you can. Let those folks keep you comfortable and don't hesitate to give 'em the famous Scout stinkeye every now and again.

No words. You're in our prayers.
Fair winds and following seas, Sir.

Indeed, no words.

Prayers sent for you and yours.

Dammit...

Dammit...
What he said.
Dave, I'm not a lawyer in your part of the world, but I can offer general advice if needed. PM any questions.
-
I am speechless. My prayers to you and your family.
-
I will miss you.
-
Stay strong. Remember that you can go on and off hospice as many times as need be. It is not unknown that after a while on hospice and are feeling better, patients decide to go off hospice and resume treatment. Also be aware that palliative care is also an option to hospice. PM me if you have any questions.
-
Add my prayers to the bunch!!
-
Sorry to hear that, Scout.
-
Prayers sent.
-
We all love you and will miss you.
His son is going to register for the board soon if not already. They were discussing Scout26jr for a handle. I'm sure the mods will make sure he gets the proper welcome and access.
-
Just, thank you. For everything, and anything forgotten, thank you Scout.
-
I posted on your thread on FB as well, but thanks again for sharing with us, and helping build this madcap place.
-
Damn, I'm really sorry to hear this. I hope you find peace and comfort in hospice care. Like others, I'm hoping for a miracle.
-
I will continue to pray for you, I just don't know what else to say but, thanks, I'm glad to have gotten to know you.
-
Dave, your determinarion has been an inspiration. Peace, brother.
-
Well, *expletive deleted*it. :'(
The miracle already happened; the past 10 years have been a miracle, and it's allowed David to guide Robert into the fine young man he is instead of whatever his ex would have turned him into. Scout, if you're reading this, you should be proud of what you've accomplished. I hope your last days are comfortable and peaceful, and I'm proud to have known you. (I'm crying now, dammit)
-
I really am bad at finding words for these things...
You've been badly missed over here.
I'll pray for you.
-
Very sorry to hear about this. Much peace.
-
Scout, I hope you're able to enjoy the time you have left. Be praying for you.

All of this.

i havent been here for a while... came back for this.
I'm so sorry and sad Scout. God be with you.
-
Talked to David just now. He had a few moments of coherence but but mostly he was pretty out of it. He said to give his love to you all. Keep praying for him.
-
Damn. I just texted him but didn’t call because I figured they were keeping him pretty doped up. *expletive deleted*it, just a few days ago we were hoping he was going to be out of the hospital in a couple weeks. He’s a hell of a good man who got dealt a crap hand especially lately
Gonna miss you Scout
-
Been away from here for a while and seen his post on FB. Prayers to him and his family.

Gave him a buzz just now. Yeah, not really coherent, pretty much out of it.
Not seeing a proper "Bummer" emoticon.
:'(
-
Been away for awhile as well but was keeping up on Facebook.
He is one of the good ones.
-
Peace Brother Dave.
Hospice is a wonderful program when other options are limited.
-
Worst possible news, Scout.
-
I asked Robert if his dad was up for a phone call.
His response:
Unfortunately not he isnt waking up much anymore and he hasn't been talking
-
At this point, he is likely getting regular doses of liquid morphine via dropper into his mouth to keep him comfortable. He may not be conscious enough to interact with anyone.
-
I have a feeling this weekend is going to be sad. =(
-
This has to be incredibly tough for Robert.

Final lesson from his dad on being a man. I'm really sorry they are having to go through this.
