Title: Nearly 200 mph in a single gear...
Post by: K Frame on October 02, 2020, 10:05:21 AM
In one of the most epic looking cars of all time...

https://www.thedrive.com/news/36848/going-0-186-mph-in-the-single-gear-koenigsegg-regera-is-borderline-unsettling?fbclid=IwAR23OtYtx_RZ8wzCm3C7iqTjOJ-A-H8QNvmHFP3FgUTy7ehzvXXdnb1bcZ4

The article doesn't have a good picture of the Regera, although the overhead shot is quite nice...

But the convertible version?

Oh my various gods...

Pfffft... slackers. The Corvette Z06 could do standstill to 177 in one gear way back in 2009.

Sweet looking ride. A bit on the spendy side, though.

"Pfffft... slackers. The Corvette Z06 could do standstill to 177 in one gear way back in 2009."

A number of other cars have been able to do that, including the Veyron, I believe.

But none of them have looked as right, as EPIC, as the Regera.

Compared to the Regera, the Corvette looks like a dowdly housefrau with curlers in her hair and a Marlboro hanging out of the corner of her mouth.

Yeah, but insult the housefrau and she might beat you up. The Regera would just viciously redecorate your living room.

They do have a reverser. They used to have a two speed but went too fast. Then they limited gear ratio to keep slowing them down more.

I can't  imagine what one unleashed could really do.

And they do it all in 1,000 feet now instead of the full quarter mile.  Amazing tech.

So, about 1.5oz per foot.

Or roughly 15 cents per inch.

Add pit warm up and burnout puts you close to 23 gallons. And stuff is not cheap.

Not a damned thing.

But Vin Diesel didn't yell NITRO METHANE!!! at a burning car that was getting ready to explode in that horrible movie franchise...

Not so sure about that.  Aren't there two or three spools per engine with variable stators?

Looks like the frame/chassis failed as she came off the line. You can see it wiggle very early.

Docol tubing welded with high tensile filler is great until it isn't. I am not a fan of the weld characteristics.

Not as fast as the OP or weird cars that go in straight lines, but there are some pretty fast one gear cars on dirt. Sprint cars pushing 160 on mile tracks which are mercifully few and far between. Here's a 140mph lap(not top)speed on a half mile. I have driven this track in a sprint of less horsepower and it is the only time I have ever been nervous in a car. We were cracking wheel hubs and front spindles from G load. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0coCioCU3s (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0coCioCU3s)

Whoops, you're right...

NOSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

As I said, shitty movie, shitty franchise, shitty actors. I was channel surfing and happened across that exact scene... and surfed right past it.

Kind of odd, as either one would logically be applicable...

NOX  -- Nitrous OXide...

NOS -- Nitrous Oxide System

Fast and Furious -- waste of time and space.

Hell, Diesel even managed to drag down Saving Private Ryan.

NOX  -- Nitrous OXide...

NOS -- Nitrous Oxide System

From a common-use perspective...

NOX: Oxides of nitrogen (usually referring to nitrogen dioxide and nitric oxide)

NOS: Nitrous Oxide (N2O)

Yes, nitrous oxide is an oxide of nitrogen, but it's usually differentiated in common parlance as noted above.

You can tell the difference between old-school and new-breed hot rodders by terminology. Us old farts say "nitrous". The younger crowd, mostly those who came up on Rice Rods and F&F movies, say "NOS".

I've always heard nitrous, as well.

As much as I like the old school big-inch motors, I have to give credit where credit is due. Today's engines are marvels of power production efficiency. Making 500 HP when I was racing meant scouring junkyards and swap meets for the right cores, then many thousands of dollars in parts, lots of expensive machining, and many tedious hours of filing, trimming, and hand-fitting. Now, simply slapping a mail-order cam, headers, and intake on a junkyard-stock 6.0/6.2L LS easily crests that mark, and does so without being lumpy, slobbering, ill-tempered, unstreetable beast. The new 7.3L Godzilla motor from Ford hit 600HP with the same basic swaps and all indications show there is plenty more to be had. That's amazing.

All I have to do to make 500hp out of my 3.0 liter turbo charged straight six is to do a quick and cheap ECU flash tune.

E-tunes are no joke, especially with the proliferation of e-controlled forced induction setups. The Ford 3.5L Ecoboost can be tuned to over 600 hp dead stock and 700 hp with a few minor mods.

Nitrous is nice but I'd rather be blown. That was my old front plate.

When we where running super stock we used the old Indy Buick v-6 engines. In pounds per cubic inch classes it was hard to touch us.

Getting a chance to build an engine is few and far between these days but I love it when it happens.

I was pretty impressed by the pushbutton drive modes in the new Ford company truck. Tow/haul used to just shuffle some shift points. Now this thing has like eight modes and sport mode sounds and feels like someone dropped a new motor in the truck. Perfect for beltway driving.

I love my Turbochargers. My 1st was on my Turbo Pinto Pony MPG Automatic, with working AC. It came off a Mustang Cobra II. A hoot to drive! She did 110/115 MPH with the stock 2300cc long block and head.

Now I drive a 2000cc Turbo Ford Escape Titanium
