I had never even heard of tegu lizards until just now.

2 ft lizard? A shotgun with #4 shot should be plenty. I've killed plenty of 20-25# eastern wild turkeys with #4 and #6 shot 2.75" high brass 12 gauge loads.

Might be easier to hit them on the run also.
