Today we mark the beginning of the long slow walk back to Summer. I've long believed that the solstice should signify the new year instead of the essentially arbitrary January 1st point.

The slow walk back to Summer. A sad day indeed. Soon it will be the end of reading by the cozy fire and the start of weeds, mosquitoes, lawn mowing, heat, and the sun not setting till nearly 2200. =)

First day of Yule. Hoist a mug.

When did the Romans celebrate Winter Solstice? I know they had a similar celebration even if they didn't call it that. Our calendar has gone through a few changes since then.

Oh no, I forgot to do the sacrifices this morning.

Yuletide greetings to all.

I forgot, too. Do you have any spare virgins I could borrow?

None of the Gods want virgins, they are whiny, high maintenance, and don't know what to do in bed.
Sacrifice a nice 1911 or BHP. They'll appreciate that.

Glad I'm not the only Nordic Heathen here! Happy Yule!

Thanks! Back at you. Sorry for the delayed response, I'm out camping and hiking this week.

At the rate I'm using pellets, I'm not going to come close to using the 40 bags I have.
