Title: If you're bored: building demolition
Post by: 230RN on July 01, 2022, 04:54:30 AM
By wrecking ball, 'splosives, and a giant scalpel.

I was really amazed at the precision of that crane operator swinging that ball.  HIs last shot, it fell apart from exactly where the ball was heading just a moment before the ball's actual impact right at that spot.

If I were demolishing a building with explosives, the main question would be "How many blocks off site did the biggest pieces of debris fly?"

Engineering an inward collapse or implosion is a real skill - and I remember seeing some video where some odd pieces of debris (and rarely, the bulk of the structure) went where they shouldn't.

That operator seems to know what he's doing, but the cars on that road seem WAY too close for comfort.

Maybe that's why they chose the wrecking ball instead of ultra-high pressure devices.

Not saying nothing can happen, but most of the effort is inward with the ball instead of everywhereward with the high pressure devices. But most of the technique in using explosives involves small cutting charges, superbly timed.

The problem as I see it is that it all comes down at once, so its own kinetic energy throws stuff around.

I'm kind of interested in why they have a tire strung between the ball and the crane lines.

My favorite new word is "everywhereward".

Use it in good health.

Beats using "upward and downward and inward and outward."
