Apparently some jackass was shooting off a flare gun in a pretty populated area in DC Metro yesterday, so the police were called. Turned into a standoff with the resident eventually allegedly popping off several shots from a firearm.
Then the house went BOOM!

We have not one, but TWO very odd neighbors in my community, both Asian women.
One is just paranoid and rather nasty, but she largely keeps to herself.
The other one is a straight out lunatic, I think. She has cameras mounted in every window of her home and has battery operated motion sensor flood lights mounted on poles in her front yard.
We had to have a chat with her about those, because she originally had them mounted and pointing INTO the homes on either side of hers. That was not received well at all by her neighbors. Fortunately, after some resistance from her, and a threat of legal action from the one set of neighbors, she backed down.
She has also in the past hired contractors to work on her neighbor's homes.
You read that right. She hired contractors to work on the neighbors homes, without the neighbors permission, and then demanded the neighbors pay the contractor.
That one actually devolved into a very loud, VERY nasty screaming match between her and the one resident on the sidewalk in front of their homes. Police were called on that one, not sure by whom. Lawyers also got involved -- the neighbors issued her a cease and desist letter, the HOA issued her a cease and desist order, and the contractor she hired took her to small claims court because, oddly enough, the neighbors refused to pay for work for which they hadn't contracted.
Batshit crazy.

I always found it to be rather amazing that Castle Key, who is quite conservative lived right across the street from another VERY conservative person. Probably two of the only true conservatives in all of Arlington.

I guess in my senior citizens' apartment building, most of the craziness has died out (literally) at earlier ages. There aren't any loose nut crazies here except for me, of course.

Conservatives have been victimized by vicious and unrelenting slander and libel attacks as being dirty racist Trumpist Nazis. Since we're all such stupid Neanderthals, we probably can't see that. Some of us have learned from sheer animal instinct to keep our public mouths shut about politics.
That was quite a kaboom, like a room or maybe the whole house had a mixture of natural gas. Body's probably pretty intact, a couple of blocks away, maybe on someone's roof.

WE don't know for sure right now, but it does seem like the FBI/CIA end up working with a lot of really crazy people. Makes me almost curious if they were crazy before that association for not.

News article is claiming that the gas to the house was shut off early in the incident to prevent an explosion.
Be very interesting to see what they lay the cause at.

My guess? American Red Cross. They're very active in situations like this in this area.

That would be my first guess, too, but I was thinking a church or local gov't disaster agency. That was the only criticism about that finely-done article I could make. I'd like to see credit where credit was due.
People don't usually think of toothpaste and the like as disaster recovery items, but they are.

As far as I know, Arlington County provides this kind of emergency relief: https://www.arlingtonva.us/Government/Departments/DHS/Public-Assistance/Crisis-Emergency-Assistance
Not really the kind of program that supplies toiletries. In most cases, ARC provides the immediate emergency relief for situations like this.
There are numerous church and community based organizations that also provide assistance, but I think they're really geared toward being an intermediate step between "My house just got blowed up" and "We're crashing and burning and we need da 'gubmint."
You really don't think of Arlington County as needing something like this. US News and World Report lists it as the 8th richest county in the United States.
