A guy uses an AR-15 to defend himself against three home invaders with brass knuckles (and knives and a machete). Invaders enter horizontal status. The grandfather of one of the home invaders cries foul and claims it was an unfair fight.
Surprisingly, this was reported by far left wing Slate in a somewhat unbiased manner.

Why in the flying *expletive deleted*ck is this story coming up now? Why is Slate ginning this up?
This happened SEVEN years ago -- March 2017.
I'm 100% certain we talked about it at that time, too, and I'm pretty positive that we talked about Grandpa bitching that the fight was somehow "unfair."

Yes. Found it.

Ah, it almost sounded familiar, and I was thinking it was a different one, given the current date on the byline.
Oh well, we can be outraged twice, can't we?

I really would love to know why Slate is pulling this up now. What's their agenda? They very cagily neglect to mention when it happened in the article. The wording makes it sound as if it was recent...

And the getaway driver is apparently still "facing" charges - it looks like they didn't even bother to see what the outcome was even though seven years had passed, more than enough time for her case to be adjudicated. This has got to be one of the LAZIEST examples of "reporting" I've seen.

Regardless of when it happened…
Who says a fight with bad hombres should be “fair”?
The less fair the better, I say.

Writer is "Tom Henry". Two first names. Writes nothing but clickbaity crime-related articles. No writer bio that I could find.
I give it a 95% chance it's AI rehashing old stories for clicks.

Well I've got three last names. :P
The story actually occurred some years ago and I remember it being in the news and as K Frame pointed out it was discussed here back in 2017

This whole "just let AI write it" stuff is getting out of hand. There are a crapload of books on Amazon now that are pretty obviously written by an AI.

Actually when you decide to fight fair you have already placed yourself at a disadvantage. I think I have heard something like that someplace before.

The push for it in corporate is nauseating too, every dumbshit, LinkedIn obsessed manager thinks AI the answer to every problem.

That's actually a pretty good thought. AI clickbait.

"Well I've got three last names. "
Same.
Although my last name is only really a first name if I were Jewish, which I'm not.

Anyone else remember when some folks were outsourcing their jobs to a few hundred bucks worth of Indians a month, and then just kicking back?

There were a few clever coders who had a BUNCH of salaried jobs they outsourced that way. They DID have work to do - coordinating all "their" employees - but the $$$ was really rolling in.
