Sounds interesting, but
1) I'm not a "hardcore" gamer, so when I do play, it's invariably a solo game. And not very often, at that.
2) Because of (1) above, the last time I tried an online game, I think it was a 12 year old kid in Omaha that clobbered me in short order.

I'd like to see that as well. There's a server time in the lower right, but it doesn't take much at all to base the displayed times off the user's computer's timezone/clock.

I tried that, but it wasn't marked abandoned, and was hit by that it's under newbie protection.
If I'd known that I wouldn't have bothered with the city wall! Noticed the graphic changed for my city hall at level five, and my smithy(required for swordsmen) is under construction.

Same.
I find myself much more addicted to this game than I thought I'd be.
It's like a huge MMO version of Seven Kingdoms (amazing game btw).

I hate you, this game is kicking my ass.

5 day newbie protection. I am throwing everything into ramping up production.

Yea, I made the mistake of doing a few other things before maxing resource production so I'm having a bit of a hard time now...but I don't think I'm too bad off.

I just sent a bunch of invites. If I missed anyone, send me a message in the game. Or, find any village in the FAN alliance and send them a message... tell them I referred you, and what your favorite gun is That ought to be a good password

jnojr,
Your invite said something about getting our score to 8/8/6. What's that mean?
-
That means upgrading your timber and clay camps to 8 and your iron mine to 6.
And since I'm here, I'll add I successfully raided my first abandoned village last night. Got about 250 of each resource with no losses.
-
Hmmm.
I raided an abandoned village, too. But I lost two of my spearmen and only gained a handful of resources.
-
Hmmm.
I raided an abandoned village, too. But I lost two of my spearmen and only gained a handful of resources.
I raided with 10 spearmen, lost 1, came home with 75 each of the resources.
If you read into the help documents; raiding with lots of spearmen makes sense; you're less likely to loose troops and they can haul back more
Each spearman can haul 25 resources, swordsmen can only care 15, axemen 10.
I made back more than enough to cover the lost spearman, but I'm building more for more effective raiding. The fact that I'll be able to raid closer villages soon is a good thing. I figure that raids with 100 spearmen should be very productive, rather than hauling back 75 of each resource I'd be able to haul back nearly 800. Time to upgrade the warehouse when I start getting up there...
Raids with 50 might be better though, more likely to get a complete haul, as the raidees only have so many goods, and my warehouse can only contain so much.
-
Had another successful raid.
290 of each resource.
30 spearmen and 8 swordsmen.
No lossess still.
-
Same here 320. This game is a little time consuming and the build and resource times is quickly taking some of the fun out of it.
-
yea I agree.
The waiting is annoying, but at least I have other stuff I can do.
Just had my fourth raid, no losses so far. Another 290x3 resources.
-

Just finished my first raid. Didn't net me anything worthwhile.
Have you folks figured out how luck is determined? I lost 2 units in the raid against an undefended village. In the report it said my luck was -23 or some such. I guess the units tripped and fell on their own swords?
Anyway, still waiting for an invite.

If you massivly outpoint your enemy it decreases your morale, but I'm not sure about luck.
As for netting stuff, you have to have enough units to haul stuff back. A spear guy can carry 25 units, swordsman 15, axeman 10. So if you need 12 spear guys to haul 100 of each resource back.
-
I raided a village, 100% successful.
No losses on my side, no army at all on the other.
The other village came out 1.2% lucky. o_o

Yes... keep Timber and Clay about two levels above Iron until you start building things that require more Iron.

I'm at 8-8-6, and growing.
So, when do I get to invent the airplane?

Plundered my first two abandoned villages lost 2 spears total so far. Got enough loot to buy 5 replacements:)
How long until I can start attacking the inactive villages in my quadrant? The abandoned vilages are all 5 or more hours away.

Looks like a cool game. Might give it a try in July when I have a bit more time on my hands.

It doesn't take much to play, you could get by with logging on a few times a day for 5 minutes each time. There is a lot of hurry-up-and-wait.

What I did was simply click on each one nearby that was below 60 points. It doesn't take long to get above that, so you know they aren't playing. It'll tell you when you can attack.
3 raids pays for the wood needed for a spearman...

As soon as i get better situated I'm going to send out some tripwire troops. I already exchanged one with my closest neighbor mbs357
-
May he serve you til he dies or you find someone better.
-
I just started sending tripwire spears to people in my neighborhood this afternoon. I currently have about 80 spears/ 40 swords, with about 30 more in production que.
I seem to keep running out of wood, current levels are 11/9/9. I get a lot more resources from farming a 64 pt village 30 minutes from mine than I do from mining
I'm trying to build up troops right now because there are 4 villages real close to me between 50-75pts that will come out of noob protection tomorow.
I'm wondering if I should concentrate on creating even more troops, or upping my mining levels?
-
After looking around, I'm impressed. I'm hanging out at (724|551) K57.

I'm farming like six of them right now, it kinda dwarfs my asset abilities(12/10/5). So far I've been able to balance my expenditures real well. Wood is in high demand.
Just got light calvary! High speed, lots of carrying capacity.
-
I'm probably a few days away from getting light cavalry
-
And it looks like my iron mine is going to be seriously upgraded... 250 iron each, woof...
-
I've turned to farming nearby neglected villages as well. I'm at 11-11-8 on my resource buildings. Almost to the point that I can build a stable and start turning out the horsies. Grislyatoms and I have exchanged tripwire spearmen, I need to send some to the other nearby tribe members too.
-
I attacked an 81 pt village this morning that had 20 spears in it, I took a handful of losses and wiped him out. I attacked again 2 hours later and he had 10 spears again.
Wondering what I should do:
1. Do nothing and make him lose sleep.
2. Tell him I'm done attacking him as he's proven to be an active village
3. Milk him like a bitch.
I currently have a lvl 7 wall and keep about 75 swords in the village, nothing near me is going to be a threat for awhile
-
Finally had a bad raid.
Sent 30 spearmen to a low level village nearby...expecting it to be unmanned.
He had about 25 or so spearmen. Managed to kill about half but lost all mine.
So I sent about 20 axemen and a couple of light cavalry.
They took out the last 7 spearmen and brought back 223 of each resource...
Then I sent 30 spearmen and 25 swordsmen to clean up. Getting about 400 of each resource.
-
I had my worst and best raid today, even my worst raid wasn't bad, just not profitable....

I'm attacking right now with 120 spearmen and 4 light calv. No losses so far, I find that the fewer you send the more likely you are to loose somebody. With that many I generally clear out the village.

How do you get scouts or other weapons. I can't find anything that says how.
Actually it says in the documentation that to research scouts you need a stable.
A stable needs: Barracks (Level5), Smithy (Level5), Village Headquarters (Level10)
The smithy is actually the research building. Once you have the stable built, you click on the smithy and research the scouts. After that, get the stable up to level 3 for light cavalry. It's also where you can research axes if you want to.

Thanks for the info and link. I think this game is going to be very addicting.

Can't create a second village; can take one over with enough effort. It takes a noble, which is incredibly expensive.
-
Anybody know the reason for the mass exodus? Over the last day, close to 40 members have left the tribe....Makes me nervous...

So now what?
Grow, build. Eventually raid everybody around you that's weaker than you. Personally, I'm raiding over 30 villages more or less daily. I've driven two active players out of my little domain.
Soon, I'll be able to train nobles to take over other's villages.
-
Looks like fun, I'm in. Username is Uncle Enzo.
Any advice for the newbs?
-
Yes. Don't become a farm.
-
Yes. Don't become a farm.
Join a clan, that helps. Build defenses, but don't go crazy on them. Pay attention to others around you. Communicate with them, that can frequently help.
Creating your own clan doesn't help, players can see who's a member, and it's patently obvious when you're the only member of your tribe. There's a half dozen who tried it with me. Didn't work. There were another four or so that had clans of two members. When I have twice the points of both of them combined...
On the other hand, I avoid people who are members of 100k point clans.
Still the element of luck, of course.
BTW, I'm up to over 40 villages. I'm the nasty guy you have to worry about. Being a member of a large clan is your best protection.
-
What does a clan do for you? The help files indicate that joining a tribe is good, but it doesn't say why.
What tribe should I join?
-

What tribe should I join?
Think of them like allies. Anybody attacks you, they're supposed to help. The big thing it does is that if you join a large enough one, it'll stop or at least delay people like me from sending 600+ troopers, rams, and catapults to attack your village. I'll steal all your resources, kill all your soldiers, knock your wall down, use my catapults to destroy your barracks/stable/Farm/Village HQ.
Once I've done that, you can't produce any troops, if you're large enough you'll have to build a farm before you can rebuild your barracks to even start rebuilding your troops. BTW: I'd still be raiding you during this.
I'm still a member of FAN, but as noted here, there's been a schizm. We're still pretty large, over 100k points. If you want to be a member, send me an in-game email(I'm Firethorn there too).
-
Ok, that makes sense. I'd like to join your clan. I figure it's better to be your ally than your enemy.
Thanks for the help and advice.

Boy, don't I sound like a mean nasty character.
Still, the fact is that this is a game, and by design you have to be a mean nasty machivellian figure in order to compete. I gain more during an hour of raiding than I do in a day from my personal mines - And they're level 20+.
I'm literally double or triple the points of everybody within a couple hours travel.

I'm attacking my first village!!!
It's abandoned and I only sent one spearman because I'm scared BUT YEA!!!
I'd suggest waiting in the future until you have at least 30...
Spearmen tend to fall on their own spears when not in a big group. There's no other explanation, given that they're attacking somewhere with no wall or troops.
-
I started harvesting nearby villages when I only had 5 or 10 spearmen to spare. It worked well enough, even though I usually lost a man each time. I was careful to pick villages I knew were undefended.
I have enough of the buggers now to send 30 or 40 on each raid and still leave behind enough to defend my own village while they're gone. The payback is much bigger now that I have more people to carry resources back. And firethorn is right, once you get above about 30 spearmen per attack you're much less likely to lose one in the process.
I still don't have the nerve to try attacking a defended village.

Once you get the smithery up, build a few swordsmen, their greater offense will put an end to the spearman problem. Axemen when you get them, as axemen are both as fast as spears and have more offense. Can't carry much though. I personally think light calvary is the best for raiding. 30 of them can clean out a completely stocked 50 point village.
-
Send about 40 or 50 spears on raids along with 4 swords- the 4 swords seem to keep the spears from dying for some reason
I've been on a rampage the last 3 days: been trying to wipe out a village every day. I killed a 800+ point village last night a 300pt village today and a 500pt village 2 days ago I invited a friendly village right next to mine to join FAN- he lives on the other side of the world, so he keep hammering the villages that I crush while I'm away sleeping or working and he scouts new villages for me to attack. The 800pt village that I crushed had a large warehouse and 15+ on each of their mines.$$$$$$ (for attacks at my level, I'm using several hundred axes with scores of cats and rams to get the job done and my boys home safely)
Don't get caught with your pants around your ankles. If someone scouts you, and you have vast resources and only 50 spears guarding the loot, it'd be my pleasure to use show how the catapults and rams work

My village is up to 2,600 pts.
I'll be building an academy tomorrow and start nobling villages soon.
I crushed this 250 pt village near me...killed all his troops and smashed his wall, HQ, bks, and farm with rams and cats over and over, several times a day until he gave up and quit. Now I get to farm about 5K of resources per day from him. It was good practice for nobling. I have yet to be attacked, or even scouted.
I made a new friend of a player nearby in my tribe who's just a bit bigger than me. We trade resources and have tripwires in place. I account sat for him last week, it was easy.
Fun game...my first online gaming experience.

Now I get to farm about 5K of resources per day from him. It was good practice for nobling. I have yet to be attacked, or even scouted.
First, I recommend going after someplace larger than a 250 point village. The time needed to build the new village up will be huge. I made that mistake for my first nobling. I actually ended up building my second academy at my third village, and still haven't done it for the second.
My fourth noble was a 3k point village. That, for some reason, was less defended than some 500 point villages I've seen. I'm currently building troops up to take another 3k village, this one fairly well defended. Of course, I'm also going to be hitting the pop cap in about three days(maxed out farm), so I'll have troopers to burn, as my barrack and stable are also maxed out. Takes very little time to churn out axemen/light calvary. I'm currently building up my workshop to turn out rams/catapults quickly as well. Need more to knock down level 20 walls effectivly.
Right now I'm having to concentrate on resource generation; I have enough active players around me now that my raids aren't as productive as they used to be. Plus, four villages to keep stocked up.
My first village is now effectivly my offensive village, with the second being defensive(spears, swords, and scouts). Third is mixed(LC for raiding, otherwise defensive), fourth is shaping up to be defensive as well.
I may just end up attacking some village with 4k spearmen just to get rid of them; though I'd prefer an attrition system.
I made a new friend of a player nearby in my tribe who's just a bit bigger than me. We trade resources and have tripwires in place. I account sat for him last week, it was easy.
Fun game...my first online gaming experience.
That's good, congrats.

Yeah, Firethorn...I'm planning on a larger village for my first nobling. This small village was just practice in grinding someone into submission. I sent him packing, crying for his momma.
I'll scout around for a prospect for nobling. There's a 439 pt abandoned village not too far from me.
-
I would recommend going after a village that's at least 1000 points to noble. Most people playing the game treat it like Sim City and have pathetic defense. Just keep your eyes open and keep scouting. If you have a decent number of troops (which you should before you build an academy), there's no reason to settle on a <1000pt village.
-
Moondoggie,
I volunteer myself, or at least my village, for your target practice.
Send you Noble my way. I'll send all my troops away, just to be sure.
-
Anybody else interested? We're having lots of fun...
-
Edit for OPSEC.
-
I let them know...
-
Thank you grisly.
-
Well fiddle, I posted a note under announcements but I don't see it...
I can try again or you can let fjolnirsson know, he's K57 Baron now...
-
peter-man deleted it for OPSEC purposes
-
Oops, didn't think of that.
-
No biggee. In contact with peter-man and all is good.
-
I am in the game, need a tribe invite.
-
What's your game name and village name +coordinates?
-

Ok, I am entering my third day. I can only build two spearmen. Is there a trick I am missing to get that cap raised?
Edit: I think I mis-read the thing. It isn't a cap after all.
-
You have a few days beginner protection after you start. I can't recall if it is four days, or five...
Anyhow, get your wall t level 20 asap, it raises the defensive capability of your troops. Next, you want your spears leveled up to 3, and then swords to 3. You want one sword and one spear for every point of your village. Those are basics, there's a lot more to learn, but that'll get you started..I'll see about getting you that invite...
-
The wall won't make 20 before my time is up.
However, I can get it up a few levels. Plus, I am getting the hang of this I think.
Bout how many troopers am I going to need to secure the place?
-
The last two wall levels will come...18 does pretty well..just get to 20 when you can...defense is everything, I just lost my main village, because I lacked defense. I had plenty for my main village, but a good chance came up to take over another, and I got hit by someone with a personal vendetta while I was weakened...
Check the tribal forums for the tips area, and pay close attention to what is posted there...People who are active in the forums get help a bit easier.
-
My wall is only 1 right now, I plan to work it up while adding troops. Before the grace period expires I will likely only have it to about level 8.
However, I am going to go nuts on spearmen/swordsmen. How many of each is good to have?
-
your village gains points for each building and unit you create. You can see your points near the top of the screen, along with your raking, or it will show when you move your cursor over your village on the map. You want at least one spear and one sword for each point your village has. Best to keep your barracks cranking out troops 24/7...
-
Well, I am behind. I guess I will start raiding abandoned villages to get supplies soon. What is minimum size for a decent raid?
I sent some troops at an abandoned town. Is there any way to monitor them, or will I simply find out the results later?
-
First, read the tips section in the tribe forum, there is a ton of useful info in there. Don't worry about troops until day 4, you should primarily be upgrading your resources first. When you do start raiding abandoned villages, use at least 30 spears and 5 swords, less than that and you can expect to lose troops. As soon as the attack gets there you will get a report.
-
yep, forgot to mention about upgrading the mines, clay pits and so forth...
-
I just joined the forum and the game. I'm Mantua at Mantuas village (806|618), world 8. I dig gaming just as much as shooting so this is pretty convenient .
Expect to see more of me both here and there!
-
If anyone is here from FAN please let them I'm having problems getting in the game. When I log on and get the screen listing my villages anything I click takes me to a screen saying session expired. If anyone has a solution to my problem please let me know.
-
I'll see what I can do...
-

Try logging in on this page:
http://www.tribalwars.net/ticket_login.phpIt's the support request page...
-
I found that page last night and left a support request. I still can't get on the game this morning. I hope support can get it fixed.
-
Ok, now I can't get the game to load. Anybody else having the same problem?
-
Yep, I am getting a gateway timeout.
It really sucks but at least I am not the only one.
Thought it was due to my service.
I am account sitting for armedanddangerous and hate to screw up his villages because my service went tits up.
-
Yeah, I checked over at the offsite forums, and it isn't just us...
-
