Title: Another example that 'just give them the money' doesn't always work(sad)
Post by: Firethorn on July 24, 2007, 08:24:43 AM
Pair charged in deadly home invasion.

Quote
CHESHIRE, Connecticut (AP) -- Two men were charged with burglary, arson and sexual assault for allegedly breaking into a doctor's home, forcing a hostage to withdraw cash at a bank and burning the house several hours later, killing the doctor's wife and two daughters.

What probably looked at the start as a more or less simple robbery ballooned into:
3 murders
Sexual assault
Arson, loss of home

Oh, and a forced withdrawal at a bank.

 sad

This is the sort of thing that places me firmly in the 'If they're found in your home, deadly intentions can be assumed' camp.

Yep.
Which is exactly why I don't buy into the "just pump the shotgun and they'll run away" camp.
I think someone on one of these forums said it best.
"That noise might scare most of them away, but the one it doesn't will be the one to shoot you."
870 has a full magazine and an extra one in the chamber all the time.
I've thankfully convinced my dad to do the same

Well thank God this family didn't have a gun in the house. It was, after all, to protect the children.

I always think not shooting someone is preferable to shooting them.  Of course shooting them is preferable to getting hurt.
As for these guys, yeah.  A gun in someone's possession would have made the story have a completely different outcome.

If it wouldn't have helped, it surely wouldn't have made it worse.

Sure it would.  It would have "put another dangerous weapon out on the street."
j'k.

They should have offered them wine and group hugs.   smiley

Pump shotgun? Nope. Semi-automatic: lots quicker. Shotguns aren't for warning criminals, but stopping crimes.

The way I am now, picking up a and firing a semi auto shotgun would take the time it takes to fire a pump because I try to yank it apart anyway.

Besides that, my semi auto only holds 2 rounds, while the 870 holds 5.

That of course requires good wine (if you recall the article).
I'm always sure to keep a bottle of expensive wine about in case my home is ever subject to an armed assault.
