The big deal here is that the guy's a felon, and this is at least the second time he's been caught with firearms, violating the law and his probation.
For which the sentence is far too short. If someone commits a crime with a gun, if they're PUT AWAY FOR A LONG TIME, it tends to serve as a deterrent.
As it is, the sentencing is a joke. And some of the gangstas consider the jail time a badge of honor, plus they get to learn new things, work out, and get stronger while they're in.

Actually, most criminals aren't smart enough to learn from their own mistakes, let alone others'. Putting them in prison for a long, long time is a good idea simply because it prevents them from committing lots of crimes against the law-abiding.

Agreed, I meant as a deterrent to other lowlifes.
"Insurgency arsenal found in rural Wisconsin! 200 firearms, 20K rounds of ammunition, and 50 pounds of bulk black powder and smokeless explosives all in one residence!"
Gotta say it in the Media Hype Script version...
"Insurgency arsenal found in rural Wisconsin! Over 200 assault weapons including some possible machine guns, tens of thousands of rounds of high-powered military ammunition, the kind that would pierce police bullet-proof vests, and over 50 pounds of dangerous explosives that could have been used in bomb-making!"
I just love how they describe the firearms, ala' VPC, Boxer and Feinstein.
They?
Police spokesman Mike Hanson said police learned that Watson's car contained weapons, then watched the car until Watson and another person got in and began to drive off. Several officers stopped the car in the 2100 block of Muir Field Road on the southwest side shortly before midnight and found an AK-47 and a .44-caliber Ruger handgun with a 10.5-inch barrel, along with several rounds of ammunition.
They, appears to be the cops. Seems pretty clear that the reporter just repeated what the police told him.

In this case at least, your ire is directed at the wrong group.
Depends on the size of my coffin, I guess.
Hmmmm... Say, what's it cost to rent a backhoe, these days?
