Title: Why does the blue bar at the top say "test" now?
Post by: DJJ on September 24, 2007, 05:45:29 PM
Lately, the blue Windows bar across the top of the active window says "- test" after the window title. For example, as I type this, it says "Start new topic - test". In the main forum page, it says, "The Round Table - test". What gives? Have I been hijacked or something? I recently disabled some of the startup applications, too. Any connection?

Edit - this is only on Internet Explorer windows.

It's a test of the government's new system to track your every move online.

I've not seen that.

Are you still seeing it?

Can you do a screen capture and e-mail it to me if you're still seeing it?

No one has said anything about messing around in the interface.

Does it come up regardless of the webpage you visit?  You can customize IE via the registry to append - <some message> to each title.  Mine says - Microsoft Internet Explorer Provided by <my company>.

Yes, every web page, but I don't remember telling it to do that. I don't know how to tell it to do that.

Have you installed anything lately, maybe a browser enhancement of some sort?  I know installing AOL will rebrand your Internet Explorer to "Provided by AOL" or some such.

Not that I know of, hence my question about being hijacked.

Okay, I've searched through the registry and found the command for "window title", and it had "test" in the value field. I deleted it, and "test" is gone, but the hyphen is still there. Any thoughts? Any thoughts as to how it could've gotten there in the first place?

The hyphen probably just dashed into your PC.

Right...

I found if I delete the entire "window title" file, it goes back to the way it used to be. I still don't know what happened.
