Canned.  Not a moment too soon.

police officer whose berating of a motorist in south St. Louis County was captured on video is out of a job.

Aldermen in the tiny town St. George voted this week to fire Sergeant James Kuehnlein.

Brett Darrow, 20, had a video recorder inside his car. He was at a commuter lot near I-55 in the early hours of September 7th when the officer approached the car.

In a video that got wide viewership on the Internet, Kuehnlein is heard taunting and threatening Darrow, sometimes shouting and using profanity.

Darrow says he's pleased with the decision to fire the officer.

An attorney for Kuehnlein says he is still weighing his options.

Curious what options the now-unemployed cop has, short of suing the city...

I'll bet our camera hero keeps a low profile for a while, lest the unemployed cop takes his firing personal and all.   shocked

Its refreshing that they still can fire bad cops in certain parts of the country.

In Milwaukee, its almost impossible to fire a bad cop unless he gets convicted of a felony, and even then he keeps his salary and benefits up until he moment he is convicted.

Sue the city? On what basis - rightful termination?

Perhaps he'll soon be checking shopper's receipts as they leave Wal-Mart . . .  police

What you posted was unsubstantiated hearsay.

I did your work for you and posted the proof.

That was my first thought, but I don't know the particulars of his employment contract.  He certainly deserves to be fired.

I'd bring up the fact that you two bicker like an old married couple, but that would drift this thread toward the subject of gay marriage, and we can't have that.  Again.  So carry on.  I shan't say a thing.

I keep hoping she won't notice.  It's much simpler than explaining the existence of someone even more intractable than I am.   grin

If I were that 20 yr old kid serious consideration would be given to getting the heck out of Dodge.

That fired cop's buds could - and if the cops there are as bad as some posters in other threads say they are - make the kid's life miserable.

An uncle of mine got caught bangin' the Cleburne, TX, Chief of Police's wife. He lasted about 4 months before he just packed up and moved out. Traffic tickets galore, harassed in bars by off duty cops, threatening calls all night long, kids harassed in school. All added up to just leaving.

This all happened back in the early 60's. Can't imagine what it'd be like now.

A guy here about 20-25 years ago got a whole series of speeding tickets while sitting at stop lights. Turned out he had filed a complaint against a local cop. His buddies did not approve of him complaining. Made the paper back when it actually reported real news, as opposed to printing regurgitated press releases.

Some .gov jobs as well as licenses and such go away the moment you are arrested. Even if the charges are dropped shortly afterwards you are still screwed. I don't necessarily agree with it, but that is the way it is.

Personally I don't think it should take a conviction to fire someone depending on the circumstances. In this case they know for a fact that he did several things wrong. Plus the standards for being fired should be a bit lower than being guilty of a felony.

Kind of.  The cop was definitely a bad apple.  Glad he was fired.  But the kid strikes me as another mouthy brat spoiling for a little attention.

I read the transcripts.  He sounded a bit whiney at times, but he didn't appear (to me) as significantly mouthing off.  'Mouthy' brats are a bit annoying, but it is not illegal nor a threat to the general public.

An officer who knowingly said on video that he has no problem fabricating charges...  Uh.  Illegal and definitely a threat to the public.  Not to meantion, his career was dead even if he wasn't fired.  Any time he filled paperwork on any perp, any defense attorney that was at least half sober could get the charges tossed.  Rightfully so.  Integrity, my friends, integrity.

The thin blue line of harassment began in earnest, I see.  I wonder if the visibility in Blogdom will have any effect on mitigating that?

As I said before, the kid had better make himself small - or get ready to move to a different town under a new identity.   sad

Which reminds me, I haven't mailed off the blackmail notice.  No wonder I haven't gotten any large sums of money injected into my bank account in the hopes of persuading me to remove a certain line of text...
