Title: Oops...NY's new governor was the one who wanted the NY cops to "shoot to wound".

Forgot about that! This should be...interesting...

Paterson had sponsored legislation to establish reasonable restrictions on the use of deadly force by police officers, but Spitzer publicly disavowed the bill during the campaign.

I wonder if NYC's Finest is about to find out what "progressive" really means.

David Paterson is a member of a great New York political family who grew up in and around the state's public life. His father, Basil, was New York's secretary of state, the Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor in 1970 and the first African-American vice chair of the Democratic National Committee. Basil Paterson, a long-time hero of urban liberals, remains a well-regarded labor lawyer and outspoken progressive - as well as his son's closest counselor.

Quote
Paterson has, as well, a particularly strong track record of taking bold positions on civil rights issues - especially gay rights. "David Paterson is a terrific, progressive guy - extremely LGBT-friendly," says Ethan Geto, a Democratic strategist with a history of activism on behalf of New York's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. Indeed, Geto told The Advocate magazine that was thought Paterson would be a champion in the struggle for to advance same-sex marriage initiatives in the state.

All the moral and intellectual courage of a jackal.

I'm sure he has moral and intellectual courage.  He just has lousy views on politics.

One would have to actually have morals and intellect in order to have courage in those genre's.

Another great Liberal Progressive statement:  "Don't question my patriotism."
(Can't question what you don't have.)

Just an observation, not an indictment.

Also wanted to make it legal to resist an illegal arrest with force.

Perhaps assuming he'd still get his constituent's votes after they were shot to death.

Also wanted to make it legal to resist an illegal arrest with force.

This is legal in some states already, at least one, Texas.
Not saying it'd be smart, but it is legal here.

Quote from: Texas Penal Code 9.31c, section (c)
(c)  The use of force to resist an arrest or search is  justified:
      (1)  if, before the actor offers any resistance, the peace officer (or person acting at his direction) uses or attempts  to use greater force than necessary to make the arrest or search;
and
      (2)  when and to the degree the actor reasonably believes the force is immediately necessary to protect himself  against the peace officer's (or other person's) use or attempted use of greater force than necessary.

He only got elected 'cuz he made liberal folk feel good about themselves, I imagine. They're electing a minority ("We're not racist!") blind ("We don't discriminate against the handicapped!") guy with pro-gay positions ("We're not homophobes!") and stupid positions on police shootings ("We're against people dying!"), among others, I'm sure. They get to feel warm and fuzzy about how good they are.
