Waiting for the new NIN CD to be released. Other then that there really hasn't been much of any really good Rock, Alt, Ind or Metal put out in a long time.

I'm having withdrawls, I think I need to go to OzzFest this year.

Nothing new in my collection since I spend most of my music time changing stations. I haven't found much music I feel a need to purchase. May be because I listen to a WIDE variety of music depending on the activity. If I'm writing at work it's classical. If I'm actually working it's rock, new and classic. If I'm woking on my Scout or out dancing it's country. Drinking on Sunday afternoon it's Reggae. Not much music I don't like, rap of course isn't even fit to be called poetry in my book. Hope I don't offend anyone... Wink  I have started recording my sons CD's though. Some of the new stuff ain't half bad!

Pink Floyd...

Only tape in the truck at the moment. *grin*

Have to find another Allman Bros, Bob Seger, and ZZ Top tape for the truck...Hey I am old, drive an old truck with a cassette deck.

One thing for sure - cassettes take up less room than the 8 tracks did. *smirk*

I haven't made any new purchases lately, but since watching a lot of metal retrospectives on VH1 this week I pulled out "Use Your Illusion I&II" by Guns N' Roses tonight.  I stood in line at midnight to buy that one.  Still good.

I work nights, alone, and I've been streaming WOXY, the very first "Alternative" Rock station.  I grew up on the fringe of it's broadcast range.  New stuff I like are The Kills, MIA, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Lucinda Williams.  And I can't wait to hear all of "Has Been", William Shatner's newest album.   I'm LMAO from what I've heard so far.

I'm a sucker for a well-played guitar (Clapton, Santana, Buddy Guy, Joe Walsh, etc) or a really good singing voice (Jewel, Sarah Maclachlan, Leann Rimes, etc), not that yodeling that seems to pass for vocals lately.

Willie Nelson
Richard Buckner
Lightnin' Hopkins
Charlie Robison

It's a fairly representative sample, actually.

Got a taste for Little Feat the other day.  Waiting for Columbus CD.  Been listening to "Willin'" a bit.  Also cable had "The Last Waltz" (the movie) by The Band on the other night.  Hooked up swmbo's Wave Machine to the TV and cranked it up to about 99.  I played the best air guitar in years that night.  Yah mamma, I still got it!

PS:  Thanks Barbara, I just put in the Little Feat CD again and am listening right now to "Fatman in the Bathtub"  Ahhhhhh  "Oh Atlanta" just started.  See later.

I've really gotten hooked on this band Wovenhand lately as well as another band with the same main guy, 16 Horsepower.  Both feature David Eugene Edwards and I've heard their style called "Appalachian gothic" or "southern gothic."  All I know is I'm loving it...it's incredible music with great lyrics as well.  Kind of dark acoustic folk with bluegrass, celtic and other americana influences.  16 horsepower has more overt rock influences  and wovenhand is mostly straight acoustic.

Here's a couple of (legal) free mp3 from Wovenhand:
Sparrow Falls
White Bird

For a 16 Horsepower song go to this page and stream or download:
16 Horsepower at Epitonic.com
and if you have a cdnow/amazon account you can download a free mp3 from them here as well.

I'm also really digging what I'm hearing of this Austin band called The Murder Mystery but I can't track down any CDs.  Apparently they only sell them at shows.  Here are a couple of mp3s:

Tom Waits fans might appreciate this first one, Paint the Town
The Reason Why

I've also been digging some stuff from this group The Shivers but they're kind of hit or miss:
Beauty

Of course I always dig Tom Waits, Soul Junk, Medeski Martin and Wood, King Crimson, etc...

I really do listen to a large variety of music but lately I've been on this kind of melancholy acoustic type thing.

Well, the most recent thing I've heard that made me prick up my ears is Shooter Jennings, son of Waylon Jennings. He looks and sounds just like his dad did, early on. It's actually a little creepy.

I'm eagerly awaithing the new Audioslave album; really like the last one and I hope the new one is as good.  Haven't bought anything new in quite a while.  As of late I've been going through some old Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, etc. and burning compilations of my favorite songs to CD & MP3.

Waiting for NiNs new CD. Hopefully I'll get to see them in concert. Just have to Ebay some tickets for around 200 dollars. *sigh* Currently trying to add a lot of blues to the collection. However, it seems blues has just as much stale and repetitive crap as any other genre. A bit of jazz has been trickling onto my iPod, too... I love John Zorn.

The last CD I bought was Rob Zombie's "Past, Present, & Future".

Right now I'm listening to the song "Monster" by Full Devil Jacket. Interestingly enough, the lead singer actually converted to being a hardcore Christian. His new band is called "Day of Fire". I really enjoy seeing both sides of his expression and experience.

That's funny that you say that because Jewel has a very yodelly voice (I like it though personally!) and is, in fact, a very good yodeller.  I kid you not.

Personally I can't imagine myself ever thinking that Leann Rimes has a good voice.  It's such a strange voice that seems almost like some kind of low falsetto or something...it sounds like she does something weird with her throat.  Then again you'd probably laugh at some of my favorite female singers...good thing music is subjective!

I can always listen to Dog Man.  It's got just the right amount of dark edginess, groove and harmony.  I love that album but I've never been able to really get into their earlier stuff.

Timely thread. I just started buying one song at a time and found out what I liked that way. Like Grampster my last was Spanish Moon from Waiting For Col. I have the record version of that but no CD. (Yes some records do exist outside of museums) Other than that I got some Taj Mahal, Cheryl Wheeler, assorted bluegrass, a couple from Wet Willie, and one from Sly & the Family Stone.

Recently I've been updating some of my rock classics with newly-released remastered versions.  Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull has re-released several of the band's classic albums, digitally remastered, with some "bonus tracks", and I'm currently listening to (and enjoying very much!) the new copies of "Songs From The Wood", "Heavy Horses", "Stormwatch", and "Minstrel In The Gallery".  Highly recommended.

Just borrowed a few CD's from a friend of mine.  Wumpscut : Music for a Slaughtering Tribe, Imperative Reaction : Ruined, KMFDM : Attak, couple others.  All good Industrial music.

For you non-Industrial listeners, think of the music as your classic 'techno' on PCP.

I also got another Loreena Mckennitt CD.   If you like Enya ish music, buy some of Mckennitt's music.  It's much better.

Last weekend they played Redneck rock on 96.1 here in Tucson.  It was a Southern Rock marathon and as the dj's said "music that all trailer parks can agree on".  I rocked out to that station the whole weekend.  Good stuff.

My personal preference is hard rock.  Metallica, Ozzy, Slip Knot, Linkin Park and so on.

Thrice!  I picked up Illusion of Safety recently and it's been monopolizing my CD player.

They've reworked their site recently and I don't think there are any samples available right now, so here's a retailer's demo:

I'd call Thrice "Heavy Punk", though others may label it differently.

When SWMBO and I drove to Amarillo late in March I chunked a bunch of CD's in the Zook.  We listened to the 3 latest CD's from a Celtic band from East Texas called Beyond the Pale; we used to have them play quite a bit at the old coffeehouse.  Wunnerful stuff.  Also listened to some Ray Charles, Freddie King, Albert King, and Buddy Guy.

I gots to gets some Little Feat!

My most recent purchase was Mike Ness (lead singer for Social Distortion) "Under the Influences". It is an album of cover songs, most of which I had never heard before, except for "I Fought the Law". His other solo album "Cheating at Solitaire" is excellent as well. It includes covers of  Johnny Cash's "Long Black Veil", Hank Williams' "You Win Again" and Bob Dylan's "Don't Think Twice". Highly recommended.

Right now i'm most intrigued by this canadian called "Bit Shifter"

Psy-trance made solely by the synthesizer of a GameBoy (classic).

Here's a sample:

Certainly won't appeal to most.

Preacherman -

One of the stations have been playing the re-mastered Jethro Tull...good stuff indeed!

Also one of the stations been playing the various works of old blues classics...Robert Johnson  for instance...

Then one night, Bob Segar and the Silver Bullet Band...I'll never tire of Seger, or forget the last time I saw him live at the Pyramid in Memphis...

Corkey's Ribs, fried pies and Seger live...it don't get much better than that...

I managed to get my hands on Wumpscut's "Evoke" album before it was released.  Ditto VNV Nation's "Matter+Form".   VNV Nation's new CD is a bit of a disappoint.  Futureperfekt was much better.   Wumpscut is still excellent.
