Title: Dog training questions?

I'm hoping you folks can help me out. We have a really nice dog. (we saved it from being euthanized at the pound) He is about 130 pounds of furry fun, a mixed breed Pit Lab-weiler Bull Retriever. He shows alot of his natural-born instincts.
My question:
Should we try to hone his skills at mauling feathered game and furniture? or just let him concentrate on retrieving the neighbor kids? We don't want to confuse him. He really takes to water, especially when there are small children on the other shore.

There is a fantastic book called "How to Be Your Dogs Best Friend" by the Monks of New Skeet.
 They are an order of monks that have devoted their order to dogs,both training and breeding. Give it a read. All 4 of our  dogs have been trained using their methods and we have had great success.

I vote for retreiving neighbor kids. They can walk home after the exercise. And you won't have to buy new couches every 3 months.

And Good on you for a pound rescue! This is a mitzvah.
