The biggest reason why I think Gorsuch would be a spectacular candidate for the high court?
Because the socialist-quickly-moving-to-communist who represents my Congressional district, Gerry Connolly, is adamantly opposed to him, claiming that he will be a "revisionist voice" on the court.
I just about choked to death laughing when I read that...

Why are you opposed to the nuke option? The entire concept of the filibuster is something that should never have been created and should not be allowed. It ranks right up there with "poison pill" amendments to bills. In a sane world, with sane legislators, anything worthy of being proposed as a law should be discussed and voted on in its own right, not subjected to gamesmanship and "parliamentary tactics." The same applies to nominations.

There were many Democrats yesterday who said good things about Gorsuch. When it comes time to vote, though, they'll fall into lockstep with their leadership and go thumbs down.

Apparently Diane Feinstein expressed her grave worries that any judge would hold to the law, instead of taking the opportunity to create law, doesn't give a flying three fingered *expletive deleted*ck for the people who would be affected by Constitutional adherence.

Feinstein's comment about the second amendment is a perfect example of her hypocrisy.
I'm reading the live blog over at Fox News and apparently the Dems are still losing their freaking minds over Garland's "stolen" seat. Graham apparently had to remind them once again that the esteemed Joe Biden himself pushed his colleagues not to confirm a nominee in the last year of a President's term.
Isn't it amazing how butthurt and forgetful the Dems can get when their own plans are turned against them?
Why, you HAVE to approve Garland! Anything else would be stealing his seat!

I saw a video clip of Feinstein explaining that she doesn't like "originalists" because they won't twist the plain meaning of the words of the Constitution & B.O.R.s into something more modern, because you know ... SLAVERY! And other evil things of our founding!
I found it a very disturbing video .... not that it revealed anything about Diane Feinstein I didn't really know, I was just stunned she'd be so open about her disdain for those who feel the founders meant what they said.

I found it a very disturbing video .... not that it revealed anything about Diane Feinstein I didn't really know, I was just stunned she'd be so open about her disdain for those who feel the founders meant what they said.
On the flip side, she asked Gorsuch a question about GPS trackers on vehicles (I've only been watching on and off, so am not sure what side she is on). Gorsuch went up even higher in my book, because (tying in the "originalist" thing) he talked about going back to the constitution and supporting documents as written, and found that the Founders covered that pre the technology, because they already stated their opinion regarding one party's property trespassing on another party's property.
I thought it was an excellent reference to how being an originalist still works, and works well, in modern times. It also seems he made an excellent logical example of how that could tie into something like modern arms as well.

I just got a robocall urging me to call my Senators to tell them not to allow a "partisan" change in the rules that would disallow a filibuster, although they did not use that word. They merely suggested that it would prevent "Trump's nominee" from being confirmed.
Yes, I'm registered as a Democrat --I find that quite handy sometimes, despite the fact that a number of years ago I disaffiliated myself from most of their philosophy. I've mentioned this before.
It seems like they are pulling out all the stops in their attempts to "blockade" the red States.
As if that weren't obvious by now.
The call could have been to all voters, but judging from the other robocalls I've been getting since before the election, I doubt it.

Rules are rules, and if those rules allow the majority to rewrite the rules (which they apparently do) then I don't really see the issue.

I've been saying for a couple of months that the Republicans are eventually going to erect a statue to Harry Reid.
What's really interesting is that 4 senators voted to break the filibuster -- Heitcamp, Donnolly, Manchin, and Bennett.
3 of the 4 are from states that went Trump and who are also up for re-election in 2018. Easy to see what their motivation was -- self-preservations.
The fourth, Bennett of Colorado, is from a Hillary state and is NOT up for re-election. I want to see what the Denver Post has to say about his position.

This was after Democrats initially blocked Gorsuch in a filibuster earlier in the day. Four Democrats broke ranks -- Sens. Michael Bennet, D-Colo.; Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D.; Joe Donnelly, D-Ind.; and Joe Manchin, D-W.Va. – but Republicans still fell short of the 60 votes needed to proceed, prompting McConnell to overhaul the way the Senate works.
He said he did so “for the sake of our country.”

That is my understanding. It just allows a vote to end debate which brings on the floor vote for confirmation.
Rush mentioned today that SC nominees were never filibustered until Democrats started doing it under Bush II. I hadn't heard that mentioned anywhere. He said even Clarence Thomas got confirmed with less than 60 votes even after the circus that went out around the Anita Hill stuff.

After the cloture vote, the Dems were told that there would be 30 more hours for people to address their concerns on the Senate floor, and a vote would be held Friday (today) at 7:30 p.m.
Well, the Dems, who have vowed to fight this nomination until the last possible minute, suddenly realized that hey, 7:30 p.m. is too late for us to make our Easter recess flights.
So they requested that the vote be moved to 11:30 this morning.
Fighting the good fight is a Democratic way of life... as long as it doesn't interfere with their vacations.

This anti-constitutional and anti-law approach to the judiciary is often dressed up as a defending the weak (such as Planned Parenthood) and standing up to powerful oppressors (such as the Little Sisters of the Poor).
