Title: Sailing! well, sort of...
Post by: RoadKingLarry on July 15, 2017, 08:21:59 PM
Took the "new" boat out today for the first time all by my lonesome.

Forecast was for light winds. As usual they missed it entirely, I don't think there was enough wind to blow out a damp match.

Oh well, motored around a bit with a fellow sailor and his boat. Anchored and rafted up and swam for a bit. New boat is definitely a different beast to handle about twice the weight of my old boat and 5 foot longer. Managed to get it back into the slip with out any damage or undue drama.
Should have some picks of me under sail a little later.

"New" boat is a 1977 Allied Seawind MKII 32' ketch.

No wind when the pics were taken but I did manage to get all sails in the air.

I've been eyeballing my friends old boat, 23' Hunter.

Looks like a well maintained boat. Another trailer sailer to look for is a Macgregor 26S or C. S version would be my preference.

That is what they upgraded to. I'd love a Mac too.

Mac 26S was my first boat. I enjoyed it but a little to tender for the Mrs. and she didn't like the porta-potty.
So we bought the Cal 2-27 which I also like very much but she didn't like the tiller taking up so much of the cockpit and I'll admit it was crowded with more the 2-3 people.

I've got a Edson pedestal wheel helm assembly that will fit a Mac 26S, uses Teleflex cables. If your friend is interested but it's heavy and shipping would be a serious issue.
