Title: Quick things straight from the fridge
Post by: Brad Johnson on September 29, 2017, 09:58:32 AM
A thread for edibles on the quick, made by grabbing a few things from the fridge or pantry. Oddball, strange, and downright scary personal combinations get bonus points.

Some of my favorites:

Ham Wrap
Spread cream cheese liberally on a flour tortilla. Medium sprinkling of thyme. Salt to taste. Top with very thinly sliced SPAM (or just plain sliced ham for you pansy types). Nuke for 15-30 seconds or until everything is warmed through. Lay on bread & butter pickles and a mound of shredded lettuce. Nice combination of savory and sweet plus the textures work well together.

Creamed Spinach
Can of spinach, drained. Large pat of cream cheese (about a 1/2" slice from your standard 8 oz brick). Warm in the microwave until cream cheese is softened. Stir to incorporate cream cheese. Salt and pepper to taste. Enjoy with crackers.

Peas & Cheese
Can of peas, drained. Two sliced of American cheese. Microwave to melt cheese. Stir to incorporate. Salt and pepper to taste. Enjoy with crackers.

Bachelor's pico de gallo
One can Rotel, undrained. Two large spoonfuls of dried onions (diced). Mix and add a large dash of comino, garlic powder, dried cilantro, a splash of lemon juice, and salt. Leave in the fridge to let the onions reconstitute and soak up the liquid.

Quick Snack
Can of cottage cheese. Fritos corn chips. Pour fritos in cottage cheese. Eat.

^^^I have often thought that breakfast cereal is the human equivalent of dry dog food.

Take 1lb of spicy sausage (roll) and brown it up in a frying pan.
Drain off grease.
Put back in pan and add 1 - 8oz block of cream cheese
Melt cream cheese then add 1 - 14.5 oz can of Rotel Tomatoes
Mix together

Serve with Frito Scoops or Tostitos Scoops

All-beef hotdog.  Nuke for 20 seconds, wrap in a slice of bread.  Eat with a fresh Thai or Serrano pepper if available (they are plentiful at my house right now) and/or a hunk of medium-sharp cheddar cheese.  It also works with hard salami, but that tastes better cold.
Sardines, leftover brown rice, and pickled peppers or curry paste.  Microwave the rice then add the sardines; don't nuke the sardines   [barf]

Bag of microwave steamer potato's, add butter, rosemary, salt and pepper to bag and nuke. Dump potato's on plate, smash and then throw on shredded cheddar, (real) bacon bits, sour cream and whatever else you like on potato's that happens to be in the kitchen.

Instant salad kits.

Smithfield precooked porkchops (I like the ones with the bones left in) they actually heat up better when you nuke them than when you fry them.

2 slices of whole wheat bread, butter, peanut butter, honey.
For variety I will toast the bread.

Leftover, cooked egg noodles. Add pat of butter and heat/melt in microwave.

Sprinkle liberally with Parmesan cheese. Mix.
