Title: Any retired military pilots here?
Post by: just Warren on October 21, 2017, 12:45:03 AM
Looks like Trump is filling the vacancies in the USAF by pulling in retired guys. (http://www.military.com/daily-news/2017/10/20/trump-lets-air-force-recall-1k-retired-pilots.html)

Is this a prelude to something bigger?

AF has had critical shortages for some time. Rather than fix the toxic leadership issues, lack of flight hours, and piss poor conditions that lead to the shortage, they're gonna use the IRR.

So they'll recall a thousand pilots, who will then stand and sit around wondering why they were called up when there aren't enough functional planes to fly.

Brilliant.

"'A [pilot] training seat is a training seat. I don't think this will do us some good unless you can bring people on for staff jobs [too],' the official said."

Yeah, I was wondering about that.  What about the guys who turn the bolts which allow the engines to turn?

All those mechanics leave in frustration because the military is a toxic pit of despair

And then the tentacles grab them and drag them back into the Sarlacc Pit of the military. In it's belly will find a new definition of pain and suffering as you are slowly digested over a…thousand years.

I'll do it if I can fly an A-10.

Oh, you don't care about the vehicle.  You just wanna shoot that great bangy thing in the nose.

Well, they've unretired the A-10, too.

Am I that obvious?  I'd also like to drop a few boomy things.

I be confused. It is actually very easy to do that to me these days.

Why are they calling back retired pilots, what happened to their pool of weekend warriors? Have they been using them so much that they are basically filling in for active duty pilots already? I just thought the first step would be pulling the active reservists back to the real active duty Air Force, then when that failed dismally they could go after all the grey hairs. ;)

One of the single best days ever was leaving the reserves,  and telling the prior service recruiter "no, thanks"  with a straight face.

That's some supreme optimism,  hitting a guy up that's finally free of all that fuckery to voluntarily jump back in.  Extra points for the sheer chutzpah though  >:D

I thought I had read that the returned retirees were going to be doing a staff job flying a desk, thus freeing up the staff officers to return to flight status.

Oh that will make for a bunch of happy campers, it sure will. Well, it's about time the Air Force learned how much suck can be crammed into a day. :)  ;)
