Title: New, simple recipe for T-giving
Post by: K Frame on November 22, 2017, 08:17:53 AM
I'm eating with friends this year, and I've been asked to bring a green vegetable.

I'm going simple, but what should be really tasty -- roasted broccoli, bacon, and garlic. http://nomnompaleo.com/post/1626061164/roasted-broccoli-bacon-recipe

Dressed with some olive or grape seed oil for roasting, and then a final dressing with either a splash of lemon juice or balsamic vinegar.

Ought to be nice.

I need to try that. I'm one of the weridos that actually likes broccoli (with stuff on it), but I've never roasted it. I roast asparagus all the time.

Don't forget to top it with Fritos and shredded cheese.  [popcorn]

I'm thinking some ground Romano or Parmesan cheese might be a nice finish on it, as well.

Roasted broccoli, brussel sprouts and carrots rank very high on my list of good things.  A balsamic drizzle is a perfect finish.

Oh yeah, but I do prefer roasted broccoli over roasted cauliflower.

Roasted brussels sprouts are also da bomb.

"A balsamic drizzle is a perfect finish."

One of my all-time favorite recipes is grill charred leeks that are then finished in a balsamic vinegar braise. Stunningly good. Balsamic vinegar adds so much to vegetables of all stripes, though, that it's a pantry staple.

One of my talents is looking at a recipe and immediately start thinking of ways to change it to make it different/better or just mine.

Throwing Fritos and Cheezwiz on everything is NOT improving things, you pillock!

OK, MOST of the time it's not improving things. :D

It's not a hot dish party until the old ladies show up with a casserole topped with processed cheese food and stale potato chip crumbs.

Throw a handful of chopped up (halves or quarters) figs in with it to make a dish they will ask for every time they see you. ;)

^^^ Ooh.  Do you toss in the figs before cooking, so they roast along with the vegetables?  And are they fresh figs?

I use dried figs because that is what I have and roast them along with the veggies.

Here is the recipe I usually follow along with. As with any recipe this is just a suggestion. ;)

I like the figs idea. I'll try that one later though.

You might like one of the many roasted root vegetable recipes out there.  Many are finished with balsamic vinegar.

Or try a mash of potatoes, fennel, celery root, and apple with some cream.  Super yummy.

Did the roasted broccoli.

It was, I think, quite tasty. I'm keeping that one in my personal repertoire.

I do that as well.  Mildly irritating to SWMBO.
