Title: Ways to Eat Hard Boiled Eggs
Post by: Ben on January 02, 2018, 01:18:14 PM
Tell me some interesting ways to eat hard boiled eggs.

Costco got me again with a well placed display of pre-peeled hard boiled eggs in a bajillion egg package. I figured I'd eat them as snacks, so am looking for some "quick prep" ways to spice them up a little. So far I have done (slicing each egg in half):

Salt and pepper and olive oil
Salt and pepper and that Trader Joes salad dressing I mentioned in another thread
Both the above, plus put a dollop of hummus on top
All the above plus paprika

Any other ideas? I am also not averse to any recipes that have me use a bunch of them at once but that can be stored in the fridge for multiple servings.

The only way I like hard boiled eggs is either in egg salad, or pickled with red beets.

Otherwise, I can't remember the last time I ate a hard boiled egg. Probably been decades.

I like pickled eggs, so you could make those.

I usually eat hard boiled eggs buy cutting them in half, add salt and pepper with a dash of Louisiana hot sauce.

Another vote for egg salad. Preferably made with Duke's mayo.

There's also the infamous egg and onion sandwich. Slices of boiled egg, Vidalia onion, all layered on toast lathered with a generous helping of mayo (again, Dukes). Salt and pepper to taste.

Another favorite is a chef or Cobb salad.

deviled eggs.

Also, the idiot cashier at the the grocery store once suggested an idea that actually sounded good. Wrap with precooked bacon and nuke it for a minute.

You can always do Scotch Eggs, no that is not eggs soaked in scotch.

Or a sardine salad sandwich (http://www.delish.com/cooking/recipe-ideas/recipes/a9416/sardine-salad-sandwich-recipe/).

I forgot deviled eggs. I love deviled eggs. I'm also fond of Scotch eggs but have not had them in years.

Mashed, warmed, with a little butter

(Not fully mashed like potatoes, just to roughly the size of diced eggs, without the effort of diced.)

If you make your own eggs try doing them in a rice cooker or elevated in a pot so they don't touch the water and steam cook. Taste better, perfect texture, very easy to peel.

You can do that in a pressure cooker too.  I use an electric Instant Pot.  I set it to full pressure for 5min, then release the pressure and fill the pot with ice water.  Once they're cool, I peel them.

My dad just gave me a bunch of his homemade streichwurst. I think I'm having a variation of that sammich tomorrow. :)

If you can get brotchen rolls.  I used to have a brotchen with sliced egg, good German Kase and a pickle slice or two (wagon wheels, not spears).

I may have to make brotchen now....
