Title: Tablet issue...
Post by: K Frame on February 12, 2018, 06:59:31 AM
Several year old HP Pavilion 10" tablet.

Lately it's stopped charging when it gets to about 70%.

If I repeatedly unplug it and plug it back in I can work it up to a full charge. Next time it drains down, it stops charging at 70% or so again.

I'm thinking a cell in the battery is probably going bad. Any thoughts?

HP makes tables and they need batteries? ;)

Yeah, sounds like a battery issue.  You might find a cheap 3rd party battery on eBay.

I was hoping I'd noticed the spelling issue before some smartass jumped on me.

Oh well. :D

Probably not worth fixing.

It's either the battery or the charge controller.  On a tablet the charge controller is likely on the motherboard.

Ebay has some Pavilion parts, but you'd need to share the model to see if it's what you need.  Also to get a value for it working and decide if it's worth fixing to you, or time for an upgrade.

If the battery's not too expensive I might try fixing it, but otherwise...

I do like the thing for when I travel. It has a keyboard cover which is really nice.

Oh, a tablet.  I thought autocorrect changed laptop to table.  Tablets are trickier.  Not all have user-replaceable batteries.  My HP Stream 7 doesn't (you can, but the battery is glued to the backside of the screen, making the swap tricky).

What's the model number?

I'm at work; I'll have to upload the specific information later. I think it's an early version of the X2, but I'm not entirely sure about that.

No, no autocorrect involved. My fingers weren't warmed up yet.
